Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education. In addition we are looking for individuals committed to education equity and K12 schooling in culturally diverse communities. This person will may serve as the Health and Physical education program coordinator. Responsibilities: Support the programs accreditation through participation in data collection analysis and program improvement. Conduct scholarly research for publication and presentation and be committed to personal development and service to the campus and universitys community. Serve as program coordinator for the health and physical education program. Teach health and physical education courses Perform under minimal supervision and evaluation is based on acceptable completion of assigned duties by the chairperson. Counsel undergraduate students within the health and physical education program on student teaching and certification requirements and procedures. Compose correspondences to students concerning changes in requirements and updates on programs and policies Respond to inquiries regarding departmental policies and certification issues by phone email and in person. Saint Augustines University SAU drawing on its rich legacy as an access institution is a studentfocused comprehensive educational institution that produces outstanding graduates prepared for personal and professional success. SAU was established in 1867 in Raleigh NC by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. A fouryear liberal arts university with an average enrollment of approximately 1000 SAU sits on 105 lush acres just north of Downtown Raleigh NC. The institution offers more than 20 undergraduate degrees and a Master of Public Administration MPA Program and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges SACSCOC . Additional Information: Employment is contingent upon a positive background check and proof of COVID 19 vaccination. Documentation of medical and religious exemptions will be accommodated. Official transcript is required upon acceptance of the position.
Physical Demands
Walking sitting standing squatting and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in Physical Education Ph.D./Ed.D. in Physical Education preferred or closely related field with a focus in teacher education. NC Teaching license in Physical Education or closely related area. Demonstrated effective oral and written skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing courses and curriculum in health and physical education Proven ability to develop and deliver online courses Experience working in K12 education Previous higher education teaching and research experience. Record of scholarly publications and potential for external funding. Teacher certification in North Carolina. Demonstrate commitment and ability to work effectively within a diverse university learning and teaching environment. Understanding of higher education systems. Experience working with underserved populations and on equity issues in teacher education. Knowledge of best teaching practices for health and physical education classrooms. Ability to work collaboratively with school districts college faculty and college students.
