Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) the Assistant Director will work with colleagues in SAASS to provide academic support for assigned studentathletes. The Assistant Director will monitor assigned studentathletes academic progress with regards to University and NCAA academic eligibility requirements and participate in recruiting activities. The Assistant Director will also provide general support for Student Athlete Academic Support Services including additional program oversight as assigned.
Core Responsibilities Advising Student Athletes:
Provide academic advising for assigned studentathletes including personal and career development assistance.
Refer students to offices for specialized services when appropriate. Work with coaches academic advisors and other University constituents to facilitate the success of assigned studentathletes.
Assist in determining NCAA eligibility for continued enrollment and/or for competition.
Collaborate with Departmental Academic course Advisors to insure that all courses will count towards degree and eligibility to compete.
Monitor assigned student athletes academic performance including: class schedules of assigned student athletes including resolving any problems or conflicts; monitor study hall including evening hours; contribute data for grade reports; engage in regular contact with faculty of student athletes.
Provide accurate and timely information to SAASS senior management and coaching staff on matters pertaining to assigned studentathletes.
Recruiting Student Athletes:
Assist in the recruiting process for studentathletes as requested including weekends.
Includes arranging meetings with Department Heads Faculty Advisors for recruits in assigned sports; assisting with presentations regarding SAASS to recruits and families during recruiting visits; and establishing contact with incoming freshman and transfer studentathletes prior to and throughout orientation.
Performing Other Duties:
Assist with the academic awards & recognition process for student athletes.
Monitors assesses and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and implements changes required for improvement.
Prepares and submits internal and external reports to the proper offices and stakeholders. Assist in data collection and preparation of NCAA and other national reports.
Prepares monthly reports for SAASS leadership.
Required qualifications:
Earned Masters degree in relevant area.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with various constituencies in a time sensitive and occasionally pressured environment.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment.
Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality with discretion and in compliance with federal regulations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in collegiate athletic academic support.
Experience in counseling and advising Division I studentathletes.
Knowledge of NCAA Division I continuing eligibility rules and regulations.
Experience in the use of technology to accomplish academic or administrative tasks i.e. EAB/SSC Teamworks ARMS.
