The Habitat Program Technicianwill assist with habitat restoration and management activities on Audubons Spring Creek Prairie including implementing the habitat management plan on diverse habitats associated with the tallgrass prairie. The Habitat Program Technician participates in habitat & Center operations maintenance and management. This is a 6month fulltime assignment planned to start in March and and through midSeptember.
This position is onsite at Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center Denton Nebraska.
Compensation:
$15.50 $17.00 / hour
Additional Job Description
Essential Functions
Help implement a habitat managementplan on all Spring Creek Prairie terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
Work closely with supervisor staff and volunteers.
Assist with invasive species & woody plant control work using various techniques including herbicideapplication.
Assist with fence repair and livestock handling.
Assist with trails and ground maintenance.
Assist with prescribed burn site prep and prescribed burns.
Assist with equipment or facility maintenance as needed.
Assist with monitoring species habitat conditions trails and grounds.
Collaborate with staff interns students and volunteers.
Collaborate with Audubon colleagues to ensure EDIB principles are incorporated into SCPACs habitat programs and operations.
Support key operational programs & projects as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
High school diploma and 12 years of training in a sciencerelated field or related experience in land management.
Familiarity with Great Plains plant and animal species as required to complete habitat management activities.
Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower chainsaw tractor twoway radio ATV motor vehicles including a pickup and trailer etc..
Experience with herbicide application and best practices; pesticide applicator license preferred.
Ability to follow instructions from colleagues.
Ability to perform physically sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
Ability to transport a minimum of 60 lbs. and stand/walk for long periods regularly.
Must be able to bend twist push and pull for duties such as constructing fences using chainsaws chopping thistles and other farmrelated activities.
Flexibility and a willingness to work alone with little supervision and at irregular hours as projects or weather conditions dictate.
Must possess a valid drivers license and can provide own transportation when necessary. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
