Summary
The Controller will oversee and manage the financial operations and reporting for the organization. The role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records compliance with accounting regulations and providing insights for strategic decisionmaking. The Controller will work closely with senior management and department heads to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
Responsibilities Associated with Performing the Job
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements.
- Analyze financial results providing key insights and recommendations for improvements.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance against budgets forecasts and prior periods.
- Prepare financial reports for management including monthly and annual closing reports.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasts for all departments.
- Work closely with department heads to ensure accurate budgeting and cost tracking.
- Provide recommendations on costsaving initiatives and revenue enhancements.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and governmental regulations.
- Oversee and manage audit processes including coordinating with external auditors.
- Ensure timely tax filings and compliance with all relevant tax regulations (corporate sales tax etc..
Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
- Oversee cash management and ensure liquidity for daytoday operations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure smooth cash flow and minimal aging.
- Monitor working capital and provide solutions for efficient use of financial resources.
Cost Accounting:
- Provide cost analysis for manufacturing processes including labour materials and overhead.
- Work with production teams to improve cost efficiency and reduce waste.
- Implement standard costing procedures and ensure accuracy in cost tracking.
Team Management:
- Supervise mentor and develop a small finance team.
- Manage the daytoday operations of the accounting department ensuring proper training and support.
- Foster a collaborative and highperformance work environment.
Strategic Decision Support:
- Work with senior management to provide financial insights that support operational decisions and longterm strategic goals.
- Provide financial modeling and analysis for business expansion capital projects and investments.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field. CPA or equivalent designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting/finance with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or similar industry.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles tax laws and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with ERP and accounting software systems (e.g. QuickBooks).
- Excellent analytical problemsolving and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments.
- Knowledge of cost accounting and financial analysis within a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Detailoriented with a strong focus on accuracy and precision.
- Able to work in a fastpaced dynamic environment.
- Proactive selfmotivated and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present financial information to nonfinancial stakeholders.
