Working under the general supervision of Principal Investigator (or Research Manager) and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures conducts a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established. Calculates transcribes and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under direction of supervisor.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Under general supervision performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies. Routine tests may include measuring antibody levels in human and animal sera using ELISA testing sera or antibodies in opsonophagocytic assays enumerating bacteria in tissues of infected animals. Common laboratory activities include working with molecular biology tools to genetically engineer various bacterial strains purification of antibodies preparation of bacterial inocula for infection or immunization anesthetizing mice for procedures such as throat culture and intranasal inoculation collection of blood from mice euthanasia and dissection of mice following immunization or infection in vitro assays testing the properties of various immune antisera.
2.Maintains tissue cultures.
3.Records data; summarizes and analyzes results using basic statistics.
4.Prepares laboratory reagents chemicals instruments and equipment.
5.Maintains inventory of supplies in accordance with departmental procedures.
6.Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.
7.Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. in a biological/physical science required.
New graduate with relevant course or project work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in BL2 laboratory. Interacts collegially with other lab members under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
