Interested in exploring a career path in Education of the Health professions Looking for an exciting and rewarding parttime position Want to help a young adult college student with Aspergers syndrome and/or related challenges learn to navigate the college social scene If you do then consider working for Aspire.

The College Mentor position is an up to 10hourper week commitment for a minimum of one semester (possibly two semesters) working at the college that the mentee attends. The Mentor is responsible for facilitating the skill development of his or her Mentee. The mentor will be trained and supervised by Aspire staff.

The Mentor will receive a day of training from the Aspire staff prior to starting to work with the Mentee. The approximate 10hour per week commitment will be divided into approximately six hours of interaction active observation goal review teaching and accompanying and supporting the Mentee at academic and social events at their respective college. The six hours interacting with the Mentee are arranged on a mutually convenient basis with the Mentor and Mentee. Suggested interactions include but are not limited to activities such as going to class lunch and/or a recreational or extracurricular activity.

For the remaining four hours per week the Mentor will receive one half to a full hour of weekly supervision from Aspire staff (via phone Skype or on campus). The Mentor will be required to complete weekly paperwork to document the Mentees goals and progress. The Mentor may also be expected to join a monthly seminar group with other Mentors from local colleges and universities for additional training and supervision. Each group will be approximately an hour and a half monthly commitment.
