Job Description
Welty Energy an affiliate of Welty is a professional services company specializing in program and project management transmission line engineering substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV.
And now as we settle into 2025 Welty Energy is looking for aDirector of Engineering to join our team! The Director Engineering leads and oversees all aspects of Welty Energys power delivery engineering group which provides engineering and estimating services for electric utilities across Weltys target geographic region. This position is integral in guiding our substation transmission and distribution engineering team ensuring highquality deliverables fostering strong client relationships and contributing to the strategic direction of the company while overseeing the financial health of the engineering department.
As part of Welty Energys Leadership Team the Director Engineering will advance our efforts to become the best customer centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region through client relationships staff engagement and process improvement. In this position the successful applicant will work collaboratively with the leadership team and also an engineering team that is experiencing steady growth. The Director will also work directly with utility companies all the while developing your own career.
While this position can be remote/hybrid the role is based in Chicago Akron Pittsburgh Eastern PA New Jersey or New England states so candidates must reside in these areas or be willing to relocate.
Role and responsibilities include:
- be responsible for Strategy Growth and Profitability of the Welty Energy Engineering Group.
- manage an engineering portfolio of largescale utility transmission substation and distribution (Power Delivery) projects.
- be a primary liaison in the development of relationships with a designated client or clients as well as advocate for Welty Energys portfolio of services and capabilities.
- be part of the Welty Energy Leadership Team reporting directly to the President of Welty Energy and collaborate and consult as needed for the benefit of the organization.
- work closely with the Chief Engineer to drive compliance quality and functional excellence.
- provide technical leadership and oversight on complex Power Delivery projects including planning project management design and owners engineering services.
- mentor engineering staff by providing technical guidance and support.
- collaborate with senior leadership on setting longterm goals and operational strategies for engineering.
- create and manage the engineering department budget forecast future costs and ensure projects stay within allocated funds.
- develop new business to increase revenue.
- ensure projects align with company objectives industry standards regulatory requirements and safety protocols.
- collaborate with clients to develop and implement detailed project plans including timelines budgets and resource allocation for engineering projects.
- provide strategic recommendations for project scope risk management cost control and mitigation of project delays.
- promote collaboration and process improvement among your team as well as across teams and disciplines (such as Project Management).
- foster a safetyfocused culture.
- foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork open communication and mutual respect.
- collaborate with others as needed to provide consultation on specific projects when needed and to develop processes and solutions that achieve our goals for excellence and client centricity.
- ensure outstanding training is provided to incoming and existing staff.

- support the Leadership Team with strategic initiatives.
You should bring the the table:
- bachelors degree in civil or electrical engineering or related technical field (required). Advanced degree is a plus.
- 15 years of high voltage utility engineering experience.
- 8 years in a leadership position.
- strong network within Power Delivery Industry.
- PE (Preferred).
- technical knowledge of power transmission systems including substation design highvoltage transmission lines distribution systems and grid interconnection.
- demonstrated ability to develop and execute new business.
- exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- experience preparing contractual documents.
- ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team internally and externally.
- effective leadership and organizational skills.
