JOB SUMMARY
The Head Start Teacher provides developmentally appropriate instruction to 35 year old children including children receiving special education services. This position is responsible for teaching with fidelity the district adopted curriculum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Program Administrator and building principal.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a classroom setting; lifting up to 25 pounds and some custodial care may be required; may require working with special education students with varying disabilities from mild to severe; may be required to deal with angry or distraught students and parents; may attend evening meetings and perform home visitations; provides supervision on regularlyscheduled field trips.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
BA in Early Childhood Education; or AA in Early Childhood Education plus two years experience (preferred) in Early Childhood; or BA in Special Education or Elementary Education with one years experience preferred in Early Childhood Education and with the requirement that within three years they obtain a State ECE Endorsement an AA in Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Associate credential (CDA); or hold a CDA certificate plus two years experience in Early Childhood Education with the requirement that within three years they obtain at least 90 credits; or MA in related field.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to interact positively with all children to support their individual learning and emotional needs; ability to work with low income and disadvantaged students; ability to support and foster an inclusionary preschool model. Requires ability to get along well with others and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to relate positively to children. Knowledge of various curriculum areas such as child development music art preschool science prereading activities storytelling and language development; knowledge in various skill areas such as planning scheduling record keeping classroom arrangement and management physical safety of children staff and parent communication.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Must obtain a food handlers permit and Pediatric First Aid card within 90 days and hold a valid drivers license. Head Start requires proof of physical exam and negative TB test on file.
Salary:Salary is based upon the currentESP Salary Schedule(Level II); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA NonExempt.
