About the Role
The Emergency Sexual Service Worker supports underserved and shshlh Nation youth affected by sexual violence. The Worker provides support to vulnerable and atrisk youth through individual and group sessions as well as outreach services. The role covers areas along the Sunshine Coast focusing on enhancing safety and access to resources. Additionally this position plays a key role in providing resources and information to youthserving organizations schools and caregivers. The Worker reports to the Lead of CommunityBased Victim Services.
What Youll Do
- Develop a coordinated response with high schools to support youthaffected by sexual violence providing practical and emotional supportcriminal justice information medical care forensic exams safety planningand other resources.
- Enhance accessibility and engagement through outreach collaboratingwith SCCSS Youth Team Indigenous communities RCMP and other youthorganizations.
- Promote sexual prevention by liaising with youth services andagencies.
- Deliver culturally and developmentally appropriate services for youthincluding Indigenous youth in cases of disclosed sexual .
- Respond to inquiries from teachers staff parents and youth toincrease awareness answer questions and encourage serviceseeking.
- Maintain program records statistics timesheets communication logsand other administrative systems.
- Collaborate with the shshlh Nation to implement training andstrategies for supporting Indigenous youth and engaging families elders andcommunities.
- Provide information emotional support and referrals for issues relatedto relationship violence sexual child sexual abuse and familyviolence.
- Respond to calls on the CBVS Outreach Line offering emotional supportdebriefing referrals and practical assistance.
- Stay informed about community resources gaps and the socioeconomicand geographical makeup of the area and consult with social workersprofessionals and families as needed.
- Adhere to SCCSS policies procedures and compliance requirementsincluding CARF standards.
What You Bring
- Degree or diploma in social service/child and youth care or a relatedfield plus two years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination ofeducation and experience
- Have a good understanding of and experience working with youthindividually and in a group setting
- Have experience and a solid understanding of traumainformed and harmreduction practice
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate appointments and eventsafter school and in the evenings
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt toaccommodate developmental needs
- Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts ofcolonization for Indigenous communities families and individuals
- Experience working effectively and in a nonjudgmental manner with youthfrom different cultures ethnicity and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Experience applying a feminist analysis of gender violence as it affectschildren youth and trans folks
- Victim Services online or in person training an asset.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite with understanding of platforms utilized by Youth
- Excellentorganizational and communication skills
