Job Description

St. Lucy Daycare Substitute Teacher

POSITIONSUMMARY: St. Lucy Child DevelopmentCenter Substitute Teachers are responsible for preparingorganizing and teaching required lesson plans and daily schedules. Teachers arealso responsible to engage children and maintain classroom order.

ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1Be on time and in place of responsibility.

2Keep childrens diapers and clothes dry andclean.

3Maintaina neat orderly classroom; change bulletin board monthly; keep pictures/illustrations/decorations on walls neat; keep track of classroom inventory.

4Maintaina positive warm and respectful relationship between child and teacher.

5Remainattentive and alert to the needs of the children.

6Berelaxed and patient.

7Planinteresting activities appropriate for the childs age and needs in keepingwith the approved curriculum. Post the curriculum inthe classroom. Prepare lesson plans turn lesson plans in to Director eachmonth. Lesson plans should match daily schedule.

8Input data into Teaching Strategies on all CCAP children daily.Complete checkpoints by dates set by Department of Education. Make weeklyanecdotal notes on all children.

9Givethe children materials that will help them develop academicallyand socially.

10Prepare children a few minutes ahead of time for changes inactivities.

11Plana balance between active and quiet activities.

12Keep parents informed through notes. Send home childrens work at least once aweek.

13Keepa positive respectful attitude toward the center other staff parents andchildren.

14Cleanand disinfect mats cots and toys weekly.

15Arrivefor work on time clock in and ensure the cleanliness and comfort of thechildren. Call in advance if you cannotbe at work.

16Makesure all children are signed in and out by parents/guardians.

17Feedchildren in room and clean up. Assist children as needed.

18Continueto monitor for dryness and comfort of children.

19Followdaily curriculum as posted.

20Completedaily roster.

21Clockout only if the children are all gone or other on duty staff is present and thebuilding is secured and utilities turned off or a supervisor is present andgives the OK.

22Carryout other duties assigned by the Director.

OTHEROR SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:

1Beenthusiastic about St. Lucy Child Development Center.

2Workcooperatively with all staff treat each other with respect free of rudenessor public criticism. Help build morale.

3Participateactively in staff meetings and special events.

THISPOSITION SUPERVISES: N/A

QUALIFICATIONSTO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Educationand/or Experience: High school or equivalent. Priorexperience as a teacher required in a day care Head Start or school. CDApreferred.

OtherSkills Required: Must be able to successfully complete Safe Environment training.Abilityto prepare organize and teach lesson plans and daily schedules required.Ability to engage children and maintain classroom order is a must. Ability to pass a criminal record check and safeenvironment training required

Certificates Licenses Registrations: CDApreferred CPR 1st Aid.

PhysicalDemands/Working Conditions: Whileperforming the duties of this job the employee must be physically capable torespond to the childrens needs emergencies and conflicts that may occurwithin a child care center environment in a timely manner. The employee must bephysically capable to assist children when needed to ensure their safety in theplay area. The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Theemployee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is regularlyrequired to use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms;and stoop knee crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or moveup to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability toadjust focus.

OtherRequirements: St. LucyChild Development Center is a program of Catholic Charities. St. Lucy studentand staff information is confidential. Staff must maintain strictconfidentiality at all times.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; shifts with earliest start time at 6:15am and latest end time at 5:30pm
