Job Description

Job Title:Welding Teacher

Exemption Status/ Test:Exempt/ Professional

Reports to:Principal

Department/ School:Bay City High School

Minimum Salary:$50800 plus $4000 CTEWelding Stipend

AnnualWork Calendar Days:187 Days

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Manufacturing/Welding designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from accredited university or Accredited Trade School.

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience

for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI).

AWS Certification preferred.

Demonstrated competency in Welding.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge and skills in Welding and Manufacturing programs.

Knowledge of industry related software.

Ability to align Welding curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams.

Knowledge of projectbased learning programs.

Ability to advertise Welding programs to students staff parents and business community.

Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment.

Experience:

Student teaching approved internship or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Oversee Welding Program including assisting students in selecting and managing projects.
  2. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  4. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  5. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  6. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  7. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  8. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  2. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  3. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  3. Accompany and supervise students at all offcampus activities including contests workshops and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  4. Oversee maintenance of program related facilities and equipment including school farm.
  5. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  6. Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.

Budget and Inventory:

  1. Develop and administer budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  2. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
  3. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
  4. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators)
  2. Participate in all BCISDsponsored events as well as other required activities encouraging student participation in all events related to the instructional program.
  3. Participate in inservice professional learning activities and staff meetings as required or assigned including meetings with the Principal
  4. Support and assist all students by attending campus events and shows.
  5. All other duties assigned.

Other

  1. This position may be partially or fully funded through state or federal grants.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional walking standing sitting bending stooping kneeling crouching crawling and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds such as books papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
