Secondary Math Instructional Coach (High School)
Job Description
Job Goal: The Secondary Math Instructional Coach will assist teachers principals and other staff in providing support and strategies to deliver a highly effective math program and develop programming to support the differentiated needs of learners to increase math achievement. This coach will help develop future leaders by supporting mathematics teachers in curriculum assessment and instruction and by fostering an environment of collaboration reflection and professional growth.
Contract: 190day contract (teacher salary)
Reports to: Principal
Desired Qualifications
- Teacher certification in secondary mathematics
- Five years recent experience teaching math at the secondary level
- Demonstrates a profound understanding of the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards of Mathematics including the Mathematical Process Standards
- Evidence of success with the math workshop model and engagement strategies
- Evidence of improving student growth and achievement
- Participation in some type of cognitive math training
- Exhibits success in working with adult learners
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
- Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills
- Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills
- Evidence of successful leadership in mathematics content at a grade level and building level
- Experience in conducting mathematics staff development
- Experience in mentoring/coaching teachers
- Possesses indepth knowledge of a variety of mathematics instructional strategies necessary to support the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards of Mathematics including the Mathematical Process Standards
- Shows a strong commitment to team collaboration through Professional Learning Communities
Performance Responsibilities
- Support 912 math teachers in implementing the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards of Mathematics including the Mathematical Process Standards.
- Model exemplary math instruction for 912 teachers and interventionists utilizing evidencebased practices such as guided math small group instruction observation coaching model lessons coteaching collaborative lesson planning and professional development sessions.
- Lead sessions for 912 math teachers and interventionists to identify and support foundational math components and instructional strategies for students to implement to increase student achievement.
- Support and collaborate with the Districts Director of Secondary Mathematics and Science and Office of Curriculum Instruction in implementing math goals and strategies to increase student achievement.
- Contribute to the development of districtwide common assessments (formative summative and benchmarks).
- Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student mathematics weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate instructional strategies and resources based on the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards of Mathematics
- Assist with disaggregating and analyzing data (i.e. MAP NWEA Learning Continuum CFAs Benchmarks SC Ready EOCEP) to help guide teachers instructional decisions
- Meet regularly with school leaders to foster collaboration and ensure alignment between professional development and academic needs.
- Monitor and report the effectiveness and progress of improved mathematics instruction and student performance to school leaders and PLC teams
- Assist in revisions and updates of the curriculum guides for 912 mathematics
- Provide recommendations regarding instructional materials.
- Participate in various training sessions for leaders of mathematics
- Ensure curriculum development and instructional support is datadriven and evidencebased to enhance high school improvement initiatives.
