Role overview
We are looking for an Optometrist Glaucoma Specialist to join our Newmedica Leicester Eye Hospital & Surgical Centre. The role will initially be 1 day per week 8 hours) with the opportunity to increase to 2 days per week 16 hours) as the service grows.
You will have a higher certificate or diploma in Glaucoma and will have hospital experience working in this sub specialty. You will be managing glaucoma and related conditions as well as participating in glaucoma clinics. As an Optometrist with Newmedica youll be at the forefront of our mission to transform lives through exceptional vision care.
OurOptometrists play a vital role at Newmedica. Theyoperatea full range of diagnostic equipment to make clinical assessments and will analyse and interpret specialist diagnostic test results includingidentifyingnew or deteriorating eye conditions.They also provide clinical input support and leadership to the Senior Ophthalmic Technician and Ophthalmic Assistants in collaboration with the Consultants.
Theyprovideadvice to patients as well as explaining procedures. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with so our Optometrists need to beempathetic and friendlyand able to put patients at ease.
The Optometrist role at Newmedica offers a modern hospitalbased environment with opportunities for clinical learning. Our patients have a variety of interesting clinical cases which offer more complex decisionmaking scenarios. This is therefore a great role for a qualified Optometrist looking for personal development and to expand their professional horizons.
What skills and experience do I need
You need to be a fully qualified Optometrist (aMCOptomspecialist optometry degree or BSc(hons) in Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry or equivalent qualification is essential) and will need a current registration with the General Optical Council.A higher certificate or diploma in Glaucoma is required along with an independent prescribing qualification.
Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:
- Previoushospital eye service or private eye clinic experience
- Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry
- Capable of working in a highvolume clinical setting
- Experience of delivering consistently high standards of specialist optometric diagnostic tests using
complex equipment. - The training and coaching of others
- The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
- A competent user of computer systems and programmes
- An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
A good team player happy to jump in and support others when required
