Job Description

Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a temporary 4.0 hour per day Educational Assistant I at Meadow View School.

Nature of Work

An Educational Assistant Imay be assigned classroom duties which involve a variety of clerical word processing computer spreadsheet and data base typing duplication and similar tasks in order to relieve a teacher of more routine day to day classroom duties. Duties outside of the classroom include supervising playground and cafeteria activities.

  • Determines students educational needs by assisting a teacher with administering scoring test results; maintains and updates student daily progress records; keeps records on test scores grades attendance and other related data in compliance with government funding and program requirements.
  • Assists in developing lesson plans for students prepares instructional materials provides instructional assistance to students tutors students reads and paraphrases tests and provides assistance in problem solving skills.
  • Provides assistance in language visual gross and fine motor and sensory skills using a variety of developmental learning materials; develops students reading math spelling handwriting art and music skills; performs math and reading timings charts results in student folders and updates computer database and other required record keeping.
  • Observes and participates in recording student progress and correcting papers confers and consults regularly with teachers about problems encountered with students and shares behavioral and academic observations of individual students with the instructor.

Selection Factors

  • Knowledge of educational programs offered in all schools and of basic educational techniques as required by the position.
  • Knowledge of the basic developmental stages of a childs learning process.
  • Ability to schedule the workload and meet the needs of the program.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with small groups and individual students in special programs.
  • Ability to prepare materials for lesson plans.
  • Ability to interact positively with children and adults and observe individual student abilities.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers students administrators parents and coworkers.
  • Ability to learn safe lifting and proper physical positioning techniques to place students in student desks or in passenger vehicles as required by the position
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate standard office and audiovisual equipment as required by the position.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students staff and other individuals.

Ability to maintain regular predictable and prompt attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous course work and training or child development childcare or instructional assistance experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities needed to perform the work. Ability to prove Highly Qualified status under NCLB or pass Bethel School Districts Highly Qualified Assessment. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training that ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted for the required experience.

Upon offer of employment applicants must obtain a fingerprint clearance from the Oregon Department of Education through a process authorized by the Bethel School District. Applicants would be responsible for the onetime fingerprint clearance fee.
