Job Description
10month fulltime position for the 202526 school year.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Design
Participate with other Junior High Guidance Administrative and
Curriculum Personnel in the design of a comprehensive Junior High
Guidance Program.
Promote the use of a guidance program among parents teachers
and students. Emphasize the importance of a developmental
guidance service as opposed to the crisis oriented system.
The Counselor with administrators and staff will annually evaluate
the effectiveness of the Guidance Program for the purpose of
improvement.
Counseling
Collect information about students for the purpose of better
understanding them and helping them to understand themselves.
Evaluate learning environments and instructional needs of referred
junior high students.
Provide counseling through individual and small group relationships
to facilitate student self understanding personal development and
decision making.
Provide junior high students individually or in groups a warm
accepting and confidential environment to discuss: peer difficulties
social relationships academic problems parental concerns and
personal concerns.
Guidance
Provide information and discussion for students through small
groups or in class on educational vocational personalsocial and
health issues to assist in better informed choices and decisions in an
increasingly complex society.
Visit with sixth grade classes to provide junior high orientation for
incoming seventh graders.
Provide orientation for all new students who enroll in the junior
high during the school year.
In conjunction with Resource Center personnel maintain materials
and resources related to guidance topics for individuals small
groups or classes.
Consultation
Meet with sixth grade teachers and special service personnel to
determine accurate scholastic placement of incoming students.
Meet with high school pupil personnel directors and other staff
members to assist in appropriate high school placement & services.
Meet with parents teachers administrators and/or students to
interpret individual or standardized test data.
Maintain professional communications with social agencies in order
to help parents of students with outofschool problems.
Consult with parents and staff regarding methods of best meeting
the needs of individual children.
Serve as a member of the buildings Child Study Team to provide
appropriate input from cumulative records regarding each case.
Maintain open lines of communication with truancy coordinator
psychologist nurse diagnostician and administration at both
building and district offices.
Qualifications:Illinois Guidance Certificate Professional Educator License
