Job Description
JOB TITLE: Painter
DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management
REPORTS TO: Manager Carpentry & Painting
CLASSIFICATION: NonExempt
POSITION TYPE: FullTime
SUMMARY: The Painter will prepare and apply finishes to interior and exterior surfaces buildings fixtures and structures throughout the Saint Louis Zoo. As an active member of Facilities Management this position will support the Zoos mission and advocate the Zoos core values and three keys.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following reflects Managements definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict additional assigned tasks. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position.
- Apply various finishes to surfaces including but not limited to paint varnish stain enamel lacquer primer or sealer.
- Remove fixtures such as pictures doorknobs or electric switch covers.
- Cover floors and furniture with drop cloths and tarps to protect surfaces.
- Fill holes cracks or joints with putty plaster or other compounds.
- Prepare surfaces by sing wire brushing or sanding to a smooth finish.
- Tape float and texture walls and ceilings.
- Erect scaffolding set up ladders or use an electric lift to perform work above ground level.
- Apply paint or other finishes using a hand brush roller sprayer cloth or sponge.
- Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling preventative maintenance programs and record keeping.
- Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times.
- Know and understand the Zoo employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
- Work in close collaboration with all Zoo internal departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge and experience with surface preparation associated tools and equipment product usage and application techniques for all surfaces including but not limited to plaster drywall metal wood and masonry required.
- Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30Hour Training certification.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Good attendance record and work ethic.
- Must be able to push pull bend squat stoop climb stairs or ladders and twist many times a day.
- Must be able to safely lift carry and load 50 pounds.
- Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Possession or the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E Drivers License is required for residents of Missouri.
- All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test. Physical capacity to endure exposure to inclement weather dust heavy machinery restraint devices and hazardous chemicals. Use of proper PPE may be required.
- Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
