Job Summary: The Assistant Coach will carry out the objectives of the sport program as outlined by the HeadCoach and Athletic Director. They will instruct student athletes in individual and team fundamentals strategy and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Head Coach in conducting practices motivating students and instructing
- student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
- Assumes the responsibility of the Head Coach in his/her absence.
- Monitoring academic progress and encouraging student athletes to challenge themselves academically.
- Follow state regional and district regulations governing the athletic program.
- Work with the head coach and athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions.
- Model sportslike behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players officials and spectators.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
- Follow established emergency procedures in the event of an athletes injury.
- Ensure proper care maintenance and requisitioning of equipment supplies and uniforms.
- Participate in special activities to include parents night banquets award nights and pep assemblies.
- Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities by being a model of behavior on the practice field locker room bus rides and game days.
- Provide input and execute well planned practice schedules.
- Assess the skills of players and provide personnel opinions.
- Provide the appropriate instruction necessary to execute each days plan.
- Maintain proper records such as attendance injuries academics etc.
- Attend staff development meetings clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Ensure safety of studentathletes and promote fair play.
- Communicate instructions and commands using clear simple language.
- Encourage participants to gain and develop skills knowledge and techniques; especially by demonstrating an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence.
- Resolve team issues.
- Communicate with families.
- Promote out of season competition on other WHS Athletic teams.
- Commit to all offseason functions as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Education:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Certifications:
- Must have First Aid and CPR certifications at time of hire.
- Successfully complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course within 30 days of hire.
- Annually complete the NFHS Concussion management course.
- Must meet current RIIL requirements
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
