MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana drivers license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide a full range of police services by enforcing state federal and local laws and campus regulations through active foot patrols and mobile patrols.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a higherlevel police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Statewide.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Police Officer 1 by the presence of experienced level duties.
Differs from Police Officer 3 by the absence of lead worker responsibility or by routine involvement in specialized assignments involving complex police operations.
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

Protects the integrity of the levee system via motorized vehicle and/or foot patrol. Works with federal state and local law enforcement agencies as necessary. Provides security for the public that utilizes the levee system for recreational purposes. Routinely checks businesses and construction sites contiguous with the levee system to ensure proper permitting protocol is followed. Issues warning notices citations misdemeanor summons and make lawful arrests when necessary. Take appropriate action when necessary to have any violations corrected. Operates onboard police laptop computer. Take appropriate action when necessary to have any violations corrected.

Completes all applicable paperwork that is mandated by law and documentation that is essential to the mission of the levee district.

Attends inservice training to maintain minimum POST requirements. Training includes but is not limited to: firearms training first aid PR 24 baton training proper police equipment usage and any further training that the department believes will enhance the officers ability to perform his/her duties. Must complete the CPRA Certified Levee Inspector training program.

Responds as required to manmade or natural disasters the nature of which may be hazardous and/or require arduous physical activity under varied climatic conditions.

Testifies in proceedings in court as required.

NOTE: The Orleans Levee District is an emergencyoriented agency. Part of the mission is to protect the residents of Orleans Parish from tidal surge winddriven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane Tropical Storm events the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
NOTE: In emergency situations (hurricanes flood conditions or other warranting situations) the incumbent must report for duty as assigned and shall remain on duty until specifically released by the proper authority or until such emergency conditions subside. At such times the incumbent may be required to perform any and all activities required to alleviate the situation e.g. lifting and placing sandbags securing facilities placing barricades directing traffic etc.
Officers must be able to safely and efficiently operate all police vehicles and equipment and must be able to lift throw and place 4050pound sandbags during emergencies and disasters.
