The Mobile Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining terminal equipment while loading and unloading customer products into and out of rail cars and trucks kilns and treating plants.
Operate mobile equipment including log loaders frontend loaders and forklifts.
Understand and follow written handling procedures for customer products.
Safely use shop tools.
Maintain effective communication with coworkers regarding operational needs.
Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on operating systems.
Conduct startup and shutdown procedures for equipment.
Perform scheduled and annual maintenance on equipment.
Work in compliance with OSHA safety rules and Bell Timber safety policies.
Identify and report unsafe working conditions.
Read and understand equipment startup operation and shutdown procedures.
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company standards.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience handling logs including long poles (preferred).
Experience operating mobile equipment such as log loaders & frontend loaders.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as log loaders frontend loaders and forkliftssafely and efficiently for material handling.
Load and unload materials from trams trucks and rail cars ensuring accuracy and proper handling.
Perform equipment startup and shutdown procedures while conducting pre and posttrip inspections to ensure safe operation.
Conduct routine maintenance and learn to perform annual and other scheduled maintenance on equipment.
Fuel equipment properly to ensure continuous operation.
Identify material types including lumber species and classes.
Follow work orders hand instructions and written handling documents for specific tasks and deliveries.
Recognize and communicate quality control issues related to materials and equipment.
Secure and transport loads safely preventing damage and ensuring compliance with weight distribution guidelines.
Monitor equipment gauges and temperatures to detect potential mechanical issues and perform troubleshooting.
Adhere to OSHA safety rules and industry regulations including those set by the Association of American Railroads.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage maintenance load details and safety incidents.
Communicate effectively using radios to coordinate with yard staff and truck drivers regarding operational needs.
Identify and report any unsafe working conditions and follow company safety standards policies and procedures.
Use basic shop tools safely and maintain compliance with company work procedures.
Assist with other operational duties as needed to support overall efficiency and success of operations
Frequently required to sit reach walk stand hear and use hands.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
Work environment involves exposure to extreme temperatures precipitation and toxic fumes.
Noise levels may exceed safe working levels in mobile heavy equipment.
Light exposure to chemicals used in cleaning the plant.
Overtime as required.
