Science Teacher - Secondary Schools 2025-2026

Job Title: Science Teacher

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary

The position is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop competencies in Science and an understanding of the structure of Science; to motivate each pupil to apply the Science knowledge understanding and skills; to prepare each student to meet the Virginia SOL standards.

Essential Duties

• Instructs students by lecturing demonstrating and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress record results and issue reports informing parents of progress.
• Keeps attendance records.
• Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
• Prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
• Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
• Assumes responsibility for the care of materials equipment and facilities.
• Assumes responsibility for a neat safe environment for students committed to his/her care.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
• Uses outofclass assignments when appropriate to support the instructional objectives.
• Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Job Specifications

• Must possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in science or a related field. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff parents and the public.
• Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend stoop sit on the floor climb stairs walk and reach overhead.
