Job Description
POSITION: Special Education Personal Care Assistant
JOB GOAL: To assist school staff in meeting individualized student and program needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year of college required; two years of college preferred.
- Physical condition so as to be able to manage behavior/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Special Education/Designee may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
THIS POSITION IS INDIVIDUALIZED DUE TO UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS. DAILY DIRECTION OF THE PCA IS PROVIDED BY THE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER TO WHOM THE PCA IS ASSIGNED.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Current restraint program certification.
- Awareness of identified student health concerns monitor/assist as appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
- Toileting/personal care/hygiene when necessary.
- Awareness of studentassistance protocol.
- Daily consultation with teachers and other service providers.
- Implement student behavior plans in collaboration with teacher.
- Assist with collecting maintaining and organizing data portfolios and/or work samples of student(s).
- Assist student(s) with organization of desk homework class work materials.
- Assist special education teacher with implementation of student academic plans.
- Facilitate student(s) social interactions.
- Work with individual student/small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Support student(s) inclusion in the general education setting as consistent with students IEP.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
