Description of Job
Substitute Teachers are called to work on an asneeded basis; there are no set hours or guarantee of hours. In the absence of a regular Teacher a Substitute is responsible for providing standardsbased instruction to students who are Deaf / HardofHearing or Blind / Visually Impaired. Utilizes Colorado State Standards / benchmarks and/or lesson plans in establishing instructional goals; and provides assessments that measure whether students meet standards in a safe and civil school environment. Substitute Teachers are not eligible for Shift Differential Pay.
Substitute Teachers may not work over 1560 hours during the calendar year (JanDec).
Minimum Qualifications Substitutions Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
QUALIFICATIONS:- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful experience working with children or youth required.
- Prefer experience with Deaf / HardofHearing (HOH)children and / or with Blind / Visually Impaired children in an educational environment.
- Proficiency inAmericanSign Language at the Intermediate level is required to work with students who are Deaf / HardofHearing.
- Employment as a Substitute Teacher requires a current valid ColoradoEducator License or Substitute Authorization. CSDB is an accredited school; all faculty members need to hold (or be eligible for) an appropriate license or authorization. For further information regarding licensure please visit the website for the Colorado Department of Education Educator Licensing / Services at SKILLS ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively with Deaf / HardofHearing children (if applicable).
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively implement current technologies utilized by children who are Blind / Visually Impaired (if applicable).
- Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate effectively in a team setting.
- Strong positive interpersonal skills.
As a temporary employee Substitute Teachers pay state federal and local (if applicable) taxes Medicare tax and contribute to the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). They also receive Workers Compensation coverage. A temporary employee does not receive health/dental/life insurance benefits and does not receive annual/holiday pay. Temporary employees are called to work on an asneeded basis; there are no set hours or guarantee of hours.
CONDITIONS OFEMPLOYMENT:- Selected applicants must verify experience / highest degree held.
- Direct deposit of paycheck is required.
- CSDBis a nonsmoking facility in its entirety.
- Selected applicants must comply with the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind DrugFree Workplace Policy and other policies.
- As required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) selected applicant must verify within 72 hours of employment his / her legal right to be employed in the United States.
- Selected applicant(s) will be required to submit to and pass a background check to include Colorado and Federal criminal history checks employment verification and professional / personal reference checks.
