Job Description

The Educational Coordinator oversees most administrative and all clinical aspects specific to the Medical Dosimetry program. The position is primarily responsible for correlating the students clinical education with their didactic education as well as designing and assessing the effectiveness of the clinical instruction given to the students.

Dimensions: 12 students at 5 clinical sites with more possible in the future.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching (Approximate time commitment 50:
  1. Develop clinical practical curricula for Clinical Dosimetry Rotation I II III and the Summer Practicum and evaluate students throughout their clinical rotations.
  2. Develop and deliver lectures for the Senior Seminar for Medical Dosimetry course
  1. Develop and deliver lectures for one 4credit hour course or coteach two fewer credit courses totaling 4 hours of additional teaching per week for the Medical Dosimetry Program

  2. Administer selected competencies in treatment planning laboratory during clinical rotations.
  1. Administer oral reviews for each competency.
  1. Grade case studies observation reports and weekly journals during clinical rotations.

  2. Mentor students during their independent research projects by evaluating proposals acting as a liaison between students and the research advisor monitoring research progress and grading research paper.
Administrative (Approximate time commitment 30:
  1. Partner with the Radiation Sciences Program Director and Director of Dosimetry to help ensure effective program operation including periodic reviews of student progress.

  2. Maintains current knowledge of program policies procedures and student progress.

  3. Collaborates with Program Director for preparation of accreditation documents for the Medical Dosimetry program for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

  4. Performs periodic review and revision of all relevant didactic and clinical course materials.

  5. Provides continuous evaluation of students with periodic reviews to ensure didactic knowledge corresponds with clinical performance.
  1. Coordinates clinic schedules for students and evaluates its effectiveness.

  2. Maintains clinic files for students including documentation of completed competencies case studies student performance evaluations and other pertinent documents required by the JRCERT.

  3. Oversee maintenance of computers in student treatment planning laboratory including routine backup upgrades creation of student accounts patient database management and troubleshooting with I.S. staff.

  4. Administer the assessment process including the annual assessment plan and formal review of program effectiveness.

  5. Cochair the Medical Dosimetry Advisory Committee meetings and Medical Dosimetry Preceptor meetings in collaboration with the Program Director to be held at least annually.

  6. Performs recruitment of new students to the Medical Dosimetry program including communication assessment material intake and interviewing of new and potential medical dosimetry students.

  7. Conducts program advising for students in the Medical Dosimetry Program.

  8. Serves as primary liaison for the Medical Dosimetry Program with American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD) and Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) including attendance at educators meetings and providing feedback on development of Medical Dosimetry profession

  9. Participates in new student and clinical orientations for medical dosimetry students.
  1. Supports Program Director for Medical Dosimetry Program needs as required.

Clinical (Approximate time commitment 20:
  1. Maintains current knowledge of medical dosimetry and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.

  2. Maintain continuing education credits per the guidelines published by the MDCB.

  3. Participate in the evaluation and implementation process for radiation therapy protocols including credentialing data submission and acting as primary liaison for Cancer Center staff.

  4. Serve as primary contact for all dosimetry requirements for the Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program including oversight of planning competencies.

  5. Assist in the training of Harvard Medical School Radiation Oncology medical residents through participation in orientation and guiding clinical rotations as scheduled by medical school staff.

  6. Aid in the recruitment and submission of Continuing Education Activities to the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.
  1. Support clinical research efforts as instructed by the Director of Dosimetry
  1. Maintain current clinical knowledge of basic dose calculations and CTbased treatment planning primarily through teaching efforts as well as clinical assistance during breaks in program enrollment such as holidays.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:


  1. Knowledge of MS Word Excel and PowerPoint.

  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  3. Must be willing and able to provide own transportation to all clinical sites.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS and/or REGISTRATIONS:
Must be certified by and in good standing with the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.
Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Baccalaureate degree required in an associated field with a strong preference for a Masters degree.
Equivalent Experience please document if educational requirements can be met through equivalent experience:
Minimum 2 years clinical experience in medical dosimetry; Minimum one year of experience as a clinical instructor in a JRCERT accredited program.
