Under direction of the Director the Senior Data Analyst Decision Support Systems (DSS) is responsible for coordinating a variety of quality and performance measurement initiatives throughout Brigham and Womens and Brigham and Womens Faulkner Hospitals such as patient satisfaction survey programs data analysis and reporting for operational/clinical departments external benchmarking efforts quality of care clinical outcome performance tracking asset utilization and measurement support. The senior data analyst will assist in transforming BWHs Balanced Scorecard reporting portal in order to increase adoption streamline support and improve usability and ease of use through development of Business Intelligence (BI) reports dashboards and perhaps future capabilities such as mobile BI. The successful Senior Data Analyst will analyze and organize complex qualitative and quantitative clinical financial and administrative data from multiple sources and synthesize results into meaningful reports and presentations on a regular basis. They will serve as a resource and role model for other DSS data analysts and train other analysts and endusers on core analytic and reporting systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Elicits data and reporting requirements from hospital administrators clinicians and other staff using interviews document analysis requirements workshops site visits use cases scenarios data analysis task and workflow analysis.
2.Performs data analysis against hospital systems such as Balanced Scorecard SAS data sets MS Access databases Epic tools external websites and Business Intelligence platforms in order to glean meaningful insight and produce actionable reports for DSS customers.
3.The Senior Analyst will present data and analyses to key stakeholder groups as requested. Collects organizes and summarizes materials for presentations as needed.
4.Works with CCE staff in design maintenance and distribution of reports and incorporation of reports into the Balanced Scorecard on a regular basis while also overseeing ad hoc data analyses and new report development as needed.
5.Works with Decision Support systems team to support maintain and develop the Balanced Scorecard including but not limited to new scorecard development QA of existing scorecards and documentation of system.
6.Provide comprehensive Quality Assurance providing adequate documentation of programs applications and operational procedures. Analyzes tests and modifies databases and reports as required to meet end user specifications and QA procedures.
7.May support a variety of Microsoft Access and SQL Server databases used for analyzing and trending satisfaction quality safety cost LOS etc. between different patient groups or over different time periods.
8.Works with new and existing DSS analysts to share knowledge in methods of data analysis summarization and presentation. Trains other analysts and endusers on key analytic and reporting systems and databases.
9.Perform data cleansing and data entry tasks as necessary to support data analysis and reporting.
10.Represents DSS on internal and external committees or task forces as needed.
11.Performs all other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Bachelors degree in management information systems statistics or equivalent experience.
2.At least 35 years of experience preferably in a related analytic/information systems position.
3.Some knowledge of current issues in the healthcare environment preferred particularly regarding quality measurement outcomes studies healthcare finance and patient safety.
4.Working knowledge of SQL and Business Intelligence tools such as Business Objects SAS BI Tableau or others preferred.
5.Project management skills and/or experience a plus.
6.MS Access and/or SQL Server database experience a plus.
7.Data management and information system experience preferred.
8.Knowledge and application of statistical analyses including financial variance analysis and statistical significance preferred.
9.Strong knowledge of PC applications e.g. Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1.A strong understanding of information systems and their application to healthcare and ability to be creative and innovative in the way problems are addressed.
2.Strong data analyst proficient with querying relational databases and transforming large data sets into meaningful insights for end customers.
3.Strong proficiency with Excel manipulating large data sets and synthesizing into digestible information.
4.Strong ability to work effectively with physician nursing management and staff at all levels within an organization.
5.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor message to individuals and audiences throughout the institution.
6.Strong organizational skills with the ability to focus detailed concentrated effort to multiple projects and reestablish priorities as necessary.
7.Initiative and ability to work independently (selfdirection) while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness.
8.Attention to detail that ensures follow through on all initiatives implemented and all projects undertaken.
9.Ability to be flexible versatile and adaptable both in daytoday activities conducted in a multisite environment.
10.Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines

Fast paced office environment that requires teamwork collaboration and flexibility.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
No specific fiscal responsibilities but must be conscientious about departmental operating and capital budgets.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No direct supervisory responsibility. Coordination of project staff as needed.
