CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
As an assistant to the high school Choir Director the Show Choir Choreography instructor will be responsible for developing and teaching choreography for our show choir performances ensuring a captivating and cohesive visual presentation that complements the music. The instructor prepares the ensemble for performances in both sectionals and large groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Attend all rehearsals camps and performances actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals.
  • Create original choreography for show choir routines aligning with the musical selections.
  • Teach choreography to choir members providing clear instructions and constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with the music director and other staff to integrate dance with vocal performances.
  • Rehearse regularly with the choir to refine and perfect routines.
  • Adapt choreography to accommodate varying skill levels within the group.
  • Attend rehearsals and performances ensuring that choreography is executed effectively.
  • Stay updated on current dance trends and techniques to incorporate into routines.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Choir Director that will provide for a successful program.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED; higher education degree preferred.
  • Experience working with schoolaged students required; preferably at high school level.
  • Proven experience in choreography preferably in a show choir or similar setting.
  • Strong dance background in various styles (jazz contemporary etc..
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Passion for music and performing arts.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Level I Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Dance Techniques: Proficiency in various dance styles such as jazz contemporary hiphop and ballet.
  • Choreography Creation: Skills in developing original routines that enhance musical performances.
  • Music Theory: Understanding of musical elements to align choreography with rhythm and phrasing.
  • Stage Presence: Knowledge of how movement and choreography affect performance dynamics and audience engagement.
  • Teaching Methods: Effective techniques for instructing and motivating choir members of varying skill levels.
  • Rehearsal Techniques: Strategies for conducting productive rehearsals and refining performances.
  • Costuming and Staging: Awareness of how costumes and stage design impact choreography and overall performance.
  • Current Trends: Familiarity with contemporary dance trends and popular choreography styles.

SKILL IN:

  • Composing and choreographing routines for the various percussion units
  • Working with K12 students
  • Collaboration with multiple groups

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Moderate Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Standing for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom or gymnasium and outdoor stadium environment including exposure to loud noise and being on your feet in extreme weather for long periods of time.
