Job Description

Do you have a passion for supporting adults with diverse abilities In this role youll help residents live fulfilling independent lives in a supportive home environment.

What Youll Do:

  • Assist with daily personal and palliative care.
  • Plan activities that promote independence and community connections.
  • Prepare healthy meals and manage household chores.
  • Administer medication and support healthcare needs.
  • Help residents advocate for themselves and connect with social workers family and community resources.
  • Teach life skills like budgeting relationshipbuilding and healthy choices.
  • Provide transportation to medical appointments family visits and recreational outings.
  • Manage household budgets and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Respond to emergencies and ensure a safe environment for all.

What You Bring

  • Community and School Support Worker Resident Care Aide or Home Support Worker Certificate
  • One 1 year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental diverse abilities
  • Or a combination of education training and experience.

Other Musts

  • Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Drivers License
    (Or ability to obtain within probation reimbursement available) safe driving record
  • Safe Driving Record & Reliable Vehicle
  • TB Test (clear of tuberculosis)
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Unionized position with a 1.85 union dues deduction
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs and walkers carrying lifting transferring pushing pulling bending assisting clients safely in and out of bed and bath and using lifts and other health equipment appropriately.
  • The following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: First Aid Mandt SafeTalk Medication Management Privacy and Information Sharing WHMIS Safe Food Handling AntiBullying and Harassment.


PPROGRAM: Desmond House

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: FullTime

HOURS of WORK: 37.4 hours per week on average

SCHEDULE: 4 on 2 off between 3 pm11 pm

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator Desmond House

COMPENSATION: $25.95 $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)
