SUMMARY
New York Edge seeks a highly organized detailoriented and responsible individual to fill the role of Student Support Specialist. In this parttime position you will be responsible for helping students remove or manage barriers that negatively impact their academic social and emotional success at school through positive behavior management interventions. This role reports to the Community School Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement the schools socialemotional learning and behavioral support interventions inside and outside the classroom.
Work with key stakeholders to understand students underlying needs to ensure that intervention strategies are tailored to each individual student.
Engage in long and shortterm planning addressing the individual needs of each student.
Safely implement proper crisis prevention and response protocols.
Present oneself as an integral member of the educational team.
Effectively communicate to staff parents students and community members in a way that models teamwork encourages cooperative interaction among employees supports collaboration and promotes a high level of open and honest communication.
Express oneself clearly and confidently orally and in writing.
Participate in regular faculty development reflective practice professional organizations peer coaching and group work.
Have an opendoor policy for all members of the school community.
Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Community School Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
Familiarity and experience with student behavior models such as Therapeutic Crisis Interventions for Schools (TCIS) & Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
Evidence of success with students who exhibit academic social and emotional struggles students with special needs youth living in high poverty and their families.
An exceptional ability to stay calm and focused in the face of big behaviors.
An ability to think quickly on ones feet to analyze the possible cause and function of a behavior and the best intervention in the moment.
Knowledge of socialemotional learning and child development.
An ability to make a genuine connection with each student.
A belief that all students have the natural ability to succeed at high levels of learning and it is the behaviors and actions of the adults in the school that nurture develop and encourage each and every student.
An ability to build caring and considerate relationships that demonstrate regard and respect for all people.
A belief that decisions should be made from the perspective of putting students needs first.
An ability to resolve student problems and make decisions based on developmental appropriateness educational research and an understanding of the issues underlying an individual students behavior.
An ability to conduct oneself in a way that maintains the integrity of the position and the school.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues parents students and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in education school counseling social work or a related field.
At least two 2 years of experience working with youth in an urban environment (such as social worker counselor case manager etc..
Computer proficiency required including Microsoft Word and Excel email correspondence Google Drive and database management.
Experience in implementing crisis communication crisis prevention.
Physically capable of safely implementing crisis prevention and response for school aged children.
