Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren on a fulltime basis.
The Role
The Robotic Solutions Design Engineer will be responsible for the development and design of robotic material delivery systems across GM plants in North America.
A successful candidate will have an established background in developing highperformance physical systems strong technical problemsolving ability excellent project management skills the ability to effectively communicate with and influence decisionmakers at all levels and an internal motivation to deliver results in a fastpaced and often ambiguous environment.
The Solutions Design Engineer is not only responsible for analyzing and optimizing existing Robotic systems performance but combining those learnings with the latest technologies to design new state of the art robotic material handling systems.
Project durations can range from several months to 2.5 years with travel across North America required up to 50 depending on the project phase and site location.
What Youll Do
Invent design and implement engineering solutions to complex material flow/transformation and human/machine efficiency problems throughout the supply chain
Manage and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the material delivery system through equipment specification material flow process design and site layout
Collaboration with internal and external teams to generate highquality costeffective solutions in very short period of time
Simultaneously manage and support multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing negotiating and communicating with internal and external business partners contractors and vendors
Provide technical guidance for largescale engineering projects
Evaluate and create physical processing and material handling solutions using modern edge technology robotics and data analytics
Identify and analyze key operational and financial metrics as part of program and feature selection to drive smart decisions
Coordinate with systems and operations engineering teams to optimize the efficiency of the material delivery system
Support the 1st deployment of new technology at the designated site
Develops processes for the validation and verification of new technologies
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelors degree in engineering (Industrial or Mechanical) Operations Research or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
5 years of related experience in design/innovation research & development manufacturing/process/industrial engineering
3 years in management of engineering design projects
Experience validating performance through simulation tools
Experience using MS Excel MS Project AutoCAD and commercial offtheshelf technologies such as Tableau SQL etc.
Demonstrated use of analytical skills to solve complex engineering problems
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Masters degree in engineering
Experience with complex automated material handling equipment packaging technologies and systems including robotics
Experience working with the designs of complex automated material handling equipment and systems including robotics and highspeed manufacturing.
Capital project management skills
DesigninSafety experience
Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
