Job Title: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Reports To: Executive Director of Student Transportation
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Duty Days/ Non Exempt
Salary Schedule: This is a fulltime 12 month position. Sal grade: 91E
Position Purpose:The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising coordinating organizing and monitoring the maintenance of all district vehicles. This individual oversees the vehicle preventive maintenance program.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Schedule mechanics to cover operational requirements.
- Inventory control of the parts store.
- Direct the work of mechanics machinists service technicians and parts supply clerks.
- Interact with management tradesmen shop personnel and drivers in resolving issues pertaining to the daily maintenance of all district vehicles with tact and diplomacy.
- Recommend replacement of vehicles and equipment.
- Utilize and analyze information from a Computerized Fleet Management System.
- Obtain and schedule required training for mechanics to maintain vehicle fleet.
- Provide onthejob training for mechanics.
- Direct staterequired inspections of all buses and vans used to transport students.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components of all systems.
- Maintain the ability to operate shop equipment.
- Prepare District State and Federal reports as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of bids and RFPs for the procurement of District Fleet and small engine equipment.
- Maintain District Fleet and asset control.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position requires the ability to use tools and equipment to maintain school buses vans and small engines. Knowledge of the use of other basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machines is also required. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Local travel may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:
- Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to engage in heavy physical activities (exerting force equal to 100 pounds).
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time kneel reach stoop and walk while maintaining body balance in performance of jobrelated tasks.
- Must successfully complete a preemployment assessment of physical abilities related to the position. The assessment will be arranged by OPS.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete daytoday tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- For schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Posthigh school or technical training is required.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or an equivalent industry recognized certification is preferred.
- Valid class A CDL drivers license with passenger endorsement is required.
- Working knowledge of school fleet operations is required.
- Minimum of ten years of verified experience as a mechanic with commercial firms required.
- Minimum of ten years of verified experience with the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and systems is required.
- Minimum of ten years of experience managing a mechanics shop including electronic record keeping is required.
- Experience with personal computers Windows operating systems word processing data spreadsheets and Fleet Operations Software is preferred.
- Experience in Fleet Soft program is preferred.
- The ability to establish and maintain positive human relationships and to work effectively with the mechanics within the shop.
- The ability to learn all and apply all local State and Federal rules and regulations pertaining to Pupil Transportation.
- Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff members in a multicultural urban setting.
- Ability to use all jobrelated tools instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge and demonstrated performance of all necessary jobrelated safety procedures.
- Must meet the insurability requirements of the School Districts carrier.
- Must be willing and able to be on call particularly during winter snow removal.
- Good communication skills and a pleasant demeanor are a must.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance and productivity.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a classified fulltime nonexempt position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

- Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses certificates and other requirements for the position (e.g. Paraprofessionals obtaining Highly Qualified status etc. as identified and maintaining all licenses certificates and requirements for your position throughout employment.
- A background check that demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
- Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a preemployment drug test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a preemployment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
