Job Description

The Position


This is a continuous filing exam. Next filing cutoffs are at 5:00 pm on:

4/1/25 4/22/25 (final)

Under direction the Storekeeper II supervises assigns reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for a variety of storekeeping and storerelated duties; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Planning and physical organization of a multiplesite storekeeping operation including storage and distribution areas

  • Methods of organizing a mail and supply distribution system

  • Basic factors and computation involved in determining costs/savings of large volume purchasing and storing
  • Safety standards and procedures for handling various kinds of supplies working in warehouses driving and lifting and moving large or heavy objects
  • Postal regulations regarding bulk mailing
  • Ordering handling and storage procedures for various kinds of specialized supplies such as hazardous materials and items with limited shelflife
  • Recordkeeping and filing systems used in ordering storing distributing and paying for supplies
  • Basic accounts receivable and payable systems
  • Various kinds of contracts shipping orders and purchase orders used in storekeeping
  • Principles of stock rotation
  • Basic printing procedures
Ability to
  • Select supervise train and evaluate staff
  • Plan coordinate assign and review the work of subordinate staff

Employment Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Either:1. One year of fulltime paid experience employed by Sacramento County in the class of Storekeeper I.

Or:2. Three years of fulltime paid experience involving receiving recording storing and issuing a variety of supplies equipment and/or merchandise. Experience must include one year of full time paid experience performing journey level or lead worker experience that includes ordering supplies equipment or merchandise and is comparable to a Storekeeper I employed by Sacramento County.

Note:If the word experience is referenced in the minimum qualifications it means fulltime paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Parttime paid experience may be accumulated and prorated to meet the total experience requirements.

General Qualifications

Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82602 Personnel Policies and Procedures and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.

The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5 Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection process. In obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.

Special Access: Some incumbents in this class must acquire and maintain an airport security badge allowing access to secure County airport locations.

License Requirement: A valid California Driver License Class C or higher may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4 or applicable bargaining agreement.
Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a casebycase basis.

Certification Requirement: Some positions in this class require the incumbent to obtain and maintain valid forklift and/or materials handling equipment certification(s). Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate certification(s) may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4 or applicable bargaining agreement. For positions requiring these certifications incumbents must be at least 18 years of age. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a casebycase basis.

Physical Requirements: Some positions in this class require the incumbent to be able to:

  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 90 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Stoop or turn when lifting items.
  • Push up to 65 pounds and pull up to 99 pounds to maneuver loaded wheeled carts and/or pallet jacks with or without assistance.
  • Climb up and downstairs.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time on hard surfaces.
  • Bend kneel and/or squat for extended periods of time.
Individuals who do not meet these requirements due to disability will be reviewed on a casebycase basis.

Working Conditions:Some positions in this class require the incumbent to:
  • Work in and/or deliver supplies to correctional facilities.
  • Work inside and/or outside in an area that may not have heating or air conditioning throughout a normal work day.
  • Work in and/or deliver supplies to locations that are not equipped with elevators.
  • Wear the prescribed safety shoes or boots and other required personal protective equipment.

Probationary Period:

The probationary period for this classification issix 6months.

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100


All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cutoff date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.


This examination will evaluate the relevance level recency progression and quality of candidates education training and experience. The candidates application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore the candidates responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.


All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
