What kind of projects would help in the initial screening 2 types of projects handling data insights in a company size like SF or some corporations or maybe something from a startup where things are being done from scratch and being in that lead role to run that project. He has seen some resumes where they have done assisting work but the real hands on was very little. I would refrain from having these candidates submitted.
I want to target candidates who have some sort of cybersecurity background not an AI Engineer we need a true data scientist. Previous experience leading a team driving design conversations and doing hands on development for ML models.
Intro of who you are this team and the position:
Enterprise IAM security looking for a data scientist she is working on AI solutioning on certain IAM products that they own. This is a data scientist who would actually develop optimize and test the ML models for building IAM solutions with AI. Having IAM space knowledge is important because this will help but in this role they will be developing and optimizing the AI models and work in collaboration with the enterprise security team for gen AI and non gen AI use cases. Someone who is senior that can actually lead the conversations and initiatives on the front.
Skills required:
Python and ML NLP RAG and personalization recommendation systems they are looking to build and prototype models around this FROM SCRATCH!!
PyTorch and Tensor they develop everything on Salesforce platform and they use AWS sage maker too. However if they have experience in something similar they should be able to pick it up.
They have products like SailPoint and Okta that we were building on. but just experience in the IAM space is good to have
Overview of this department and team: This is a new space for our org since we are developing this platform and building it we dont have anyone doing this on FTE right now. It is a space they are growing and would like to invest in this moving forward. In fact we will soon have an FTE position and we will want this contractor to work with them. This is the reason why its important for the candidate to be selfsufficient drive things and have an opinion on the design architecture conversations and managing their own code.
Day to Day: This person will be doing requirements gathering design build and deploying of ML models & pipeline. The more experience the better. Mapping the use cases identity access management systems etc.
As long as they can quickly learn the datasets here and apply to the use cases here but adopting to our infrastructure and platform will be a part of the job as well.
Any nonnegotiables they missed IAM experience is good to have because it will be easier to ramp up but it is not a must have.
Is this going to be extended beyond initial end date 1/31/26 hard to say right now if itll extend. After budget planning in September he cant comment on this. So it just depends on budget.
Interview process: 4 rounds of interviews 3 technical interviews can stack them back to back to back. This will be on Python design and development skills data modeling prototyping ML models she would like to assess if they can build multiple seams for building multiple data sets.
Would someone who is a principal data scientist or director of AI work here As long as they are hands on thats fine.
What about Software Engineer who then moved in ML and AI Someone who is coming from a software engineer then picked up ML as long as they can lead the team this person will need to help the junior engineers with experience in leading efficient teams.
Time zones Need to support PST time zones doesnt matter where they sit
Would you need Data Scientist or AI engineer She needs a data scientist that can build and deploy these models so we need a data scientist not an AI Software Engineer.
Would you be open to an architect title for AI Sure why not if the skillsets match then thats fine. But when I think about an architect I think about a lot of experience so it will be beneficial to the role. But they need to do HANDS ON!!!!!! An architect/principal would be good but from an architect POV it is a nonnegotiable for them to do hands on work. so we need to ensure that people with this title are okay with this.
Would you be open to someone who has 20 years of experience This field has only been around for 10 years so if this person has been in data analytics for 10 years then moved into data science/AI then yes thats fine.
Industry experience The experience kinds of speaks to their work even if its not IAM space they can relate to the work. In the past she interviewed someone from the financial space they werent transferrable.
