Job Description

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR GRADE 11

VSC UP PAT BARGAINING UNIT NONEXEMPT

BASIC FUNCTION

Assist the Director and Associate Director with all aspects of administration of the Upward Bound program assist with the recruitment process coordinate and implement school visits and University tours provide case management support to students plan and supervise the summer residential staff and assist with a variety of ongoing teaching and administrative tasks associated with the program.

This position is contingent on receipt of continued funding from external sources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist participants in completing applications for admission to postsecondary institutions as well asassistance with completing federal and state financial aid and scholarship applications.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of yearround student programming including a variety of educational cultural and recreational events;
  • Assist with the preparationand implementation of a sixweek summer academic residential campus program;
  • Assist with data collection and data entry required to complete annual reports to the United States Department of Education and Northern Vermont UniversityJohnson;
  • Assist with organization of all program participant files the maintenance of program documents including: budget expenditures time and effort reports student database inventory of supplies signin sheets and other administrative duties as needed;
  • Assist with the student recruitment process including but not limited to assisting with offcampus presentations collection of documents organization of files and data entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Director of Upward Bound.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Partial administrative and functional supervision of 15 to 20 program staff principally parttime or student.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in education behavioral sciences or related field plus two years of relevant counseling or teaching experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and skills relevant to the issues facing firstgeneration and low income students.
  • Familiarity with college and financial aid application processes and college readiness activities.
  • Knowledge and skills using basic office computer applications such as Microsoft Office Publisher and various social media tools.

Skills:

  • Experience working in an educational setting providing basic personal and academic counseling.
  • Candidates must be detail oriented highly organized and possess excellent communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to teach or facilitate college preparatory classes and workshops.
  • Must be able to work with supervision and independently be an ambassador for the office handle confidential information manage projects and compile reports.
  • Ability to deal effectively with and serve as a representative to students parents target school personnel community agencies and host institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives cultures in an inclusive environment.
  • Position requires flexibility with work hours. Weekend occasional evening work and overnights are required as well as travel during the work day.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.

Location: Vermont State University Lyndon campus with some travel to other campuses as needed.
