Assistant SuperintendentTeaching and Learning
Reports to: Superintendent
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning provides vision and leadership in the ongoing establishment of goals planning development coordination implementation and evaluation of curriculum instruction assessment and staff development to ensure that each student is provided with a rich and rigorous educational experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist Superintendent and Board of Directors regarding district operations curriculum technology and staffing policies and procedures.
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings.
- Facilitate Board of Directors programs policy and personnel committee meetings.
- Lead and supervise curriculum special education and technology departments.
- Facilitate the development implementation and communication of district goals.
- Attend regional state and national professional meetings.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director of Human Resources on facilitating annual staffing plan to ensure the best possible outcome for teaching and learning.
- Acts as lead administrator in the absence of the Superintendent including Board of Directors meetings.
- Administers the teaching and learning district operating policies.
- Prepare reports and presentations for the Superintendent as requested.
- Assists with the preparation of the budget in the curriculum and instruction department.
- Lead the district in the professional development plan.
- Oversees the coordination of all districtwide professional development for all licensed staff and collaborates with the Director of Professional Development and human resources on professional development for support staff.
- Collaborates with building administrators on district assessment needs
- Coordinates district summer school program
- Coordinates and recommends district instructional materials
- Supervises all employees in the teaching and learning department.
- Coordinates district grants and ensures we are applying for funds and programs that fit district needs.
- Guides school leaders in the development of school curriculum facilitates collaboration among school sites supervises the work of curriculum consultants and team members in order to formulate action plans and modify programs and procedures to improve district efforts.
- Supports the integration of technology and electronic tools in teaching and learning.
- Works with District Staff to develop oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of a professional development program to improve learning for staff and administration.
- Responds professionally to common inquiries or complaints from various stakeholders on a variety of topics including but not limited to curriculum instruction and assessment.
- Collaborates with the Superintendent district and building leadership and staff to develop and implement programs designed to ensure a high level of student achievement.
- Analyzes and interprets results of district and state assessments determines trends and makes recommendations to the Superintendent.
- Maintains adequate support staff in the teaching and learning department to serve the needs of the District.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twentyfive 25 pounds.
- Ability to walk stand sit stoop bend reach kneel crawl and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
- Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus) clear vision at twenty 20 inches or less and clear vision at twenty 20 feet or more.
- Some driving is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in Education Educational Leadership Curriculum & Instruction or a related field.
- Valid Washington State Administrator Certificate (Principal or Superintendent Certificate).
- Significant leadership experience in K12 education such as a Principal or Director.
- Experience in curriculum development instructional leadership and professional development.
- Demonstrated success in improving student achievement through datadriven decisionmaking.
- Prior experience in a districtlevel administrative role is preferred.
DESIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Strong knowledge of Washington State Learning Standards assessment systems and instructional best practices.
- Understanding of equity inclusion and culturally responsive teaching.
- Ability to oversee professional development for teachers and administrators.
- Experience managing curriculum adoption instructional materials and digital learning strategies.
- Strong leadership collaboration and communication skills.
