JOB SUMMARY

The SNU Head Cross Country Coach will provide leadership for the Southern Nazarene University Cross Country Program. They will coordinate the daytoday administrative responsibilities player/team spiritual development daily team training evaluation and recruitment of studentathletes academic monitoring and skill development of studentathletes. There will be heavy emphasis on recruiting Cross Country studentathletes to increase the overall numbers in the SNU Cross Country Program while also helping the SNU Track & Field Program compete in distance events. Also this person will be an integral part in helping SNU Athletic and University Administration along with the SNU Head Track & Field Coach in developing a longterm strategic vision/plan for Cross Country/Track & Field facilities on SNU property. This position must work within SNU the GAC and NCAA guidelines to provide studentathletes with exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships. They must have a strong Christian commitment with a vital Christian faith and lifestyle while being supportive of the evangelical Mission of Southern Nazarene University.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

• Recruit NCAA Division II level Cross Country studentathletes ensuring timely submission of their academic records for admissions
• Direct Assistants in the overall planning and of the intercollegiate SNU Cross Country Program
• Work with Financial Aid and Compliance to determine accurate communication and implementation of scholarship awards
• Monitor academic progress and progress towards graduation of studentathletes implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed
• Monitor Chapel attendance and lead by example with regular attendance
• Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of SNU Cross Country and SNU Athletics
• Plan practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations
• Coordinate practice and meet logistics for Track & Field Distance events
• Coach team members individually and in groups demonstrating Cross Country techniques/strategy as well as Track and Field distance techniques/strategy
• Assist in the coordination of strength and conditioning programs for studentathletes in consultation with the SNU Head Strength & Conditioning Coach
• Manage operational budgetary and administrative activities for the SNU Cross Country Program assist Head Track Coach with distance operations
• Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure adherence to all NCAA Division II Conference and University rules by studentathletes supporting staff and volunteers
• Continuing education within the sport of Cross Country
• Pass all certifications/testing for NCAA Division II
• Maintain SNU Cross Country facilities and equipment
• Be a Christlike example and create opportunities for studentathletes to grow and develop spiritually ensuring consistent movement towards SNUs Mission to make Christlike disciples through higher education

Required Qualifications:

• An understanding of the importance of diversity inclusion and equity.
• They need to possess strong character traits and ministry values that express what God can do through them in impacting the coaches studentathletes SNU employees and outside persons with whom they interact.
• Needs to passionately support and articulate the University Mission.
• Must have at least a bachelors degree in an applicable field.
• A heartfelt commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external constituencies.
• Demonstrate experience working and implementing initiatives that promote diversity equity and inclusion.
• Highly organized and skilled in problemsolving and conflict resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in higher education
• Five years of successful coaching experience and collegiate level coaching experience are preferred.

Supervision Received:

Receive supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student employees graduate students and/or volunteers
