Orbital is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to assist with single and multidiscipline projects in our Northeast region. The position requires demonstrated engineering and design competency preferably in a consulting environment and experience in the chemical/petrochemical oil & gas steel and generation sectors. This is a hybrid position that will require occasional onsite work in the Greater Pittsburgh PA area.


Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Review client requests for proposals and scopes of work. Act as Orbital representative at bid walkdowns. Prepare manhour estimates and proposals.
  • Evaluate and develop piping specifications and equipment designs for heavy industrial applications (Metals Midstream Oil & Gas Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries)
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations with specific focus in pipe stress analysis and hydraulic analysis
  • Prepare equipment specifications and scopes of work and provide procurement and construction support services through evaluation of equipment bid submittals development of technical bid tabulations vendor deliverable review and RFI dispositions.
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project procedures and guidelines as set forth in Orbitals corporate Quality Management System.
  • Provide technical support for customers remotely and onsite and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.
  • Review calculations drawings and reports produced by other engineers in the office.
  • Manage progress of projects relative to established plans schedules and budgets.
  • Contribute to company improvements in work flow methods of work and technical standards.
  • Establish project design bases through interpretation of relevant industry codes & standards including ASME API PIP etc.
  • Supervise work of others at times functioning as project manager project leader or technical consultant.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Strong mechanical aptitude of various mechanical systems
  • Four years of prior professional experience
  • Exposure to the Metals Midstream Oil & Gas Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and exposure to Plant3D and Navisworks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification and ability to obtain certification in other states
