Job Description

THE POSITION

The Department of Education is looking to hire an Accountant 1 for a role based in Dauphin County. This position involves engaging in professional tasks that include reviewing classifying analyzing and reporting financial information for around 2000 organizations participating in the Child Nutrition Programs (CNP). DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves conducting professional evaluations classifications analyses and reporting of financial information pertaining to around 2000 entities within the Child Nutrition Programs (CNP). The primary objective is to ensure adherence to both state and federal regulations. The individual in this position will engage in analytical and evaluative tasks by scrutinizing financial documents in accordance with established accounting principles. This assessment aims to determine the accountability and efficient use of federal and state funds allocated to food service accounts while also ensuring compliance with regulations governing financial management internal controls and resource management within the CNPs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Fulltime employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday Friday with 60minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) parttime. Staff is required to report to the worksite every Thursday but this is subject to change depending on work requirements. In order to telework you must have a securely configured highspeed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Commonwealths Accounting Intern Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as a Financial Programs Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as a Fiscal Technician and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting;or
  • A Bachelors Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
