Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a designated Neighbourhood Centre Programmer Program Specialist Community Consultant Youth Consultant or Facility and Program Supervisor the employee in this position will be responsible for the development coordination implementation monitoring and evaluation of sport culture and recreation programs focused on Indigenous culture.
The successful candidate will have lived experience in the Indigenous community and demonstrated cultural competency.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops coordinates implements monitors and evaluates sport culture and recreation programs within a designated facility and to specific target groups.
Secures facility spaces as required and ensures the program space and equipment are safe.
Coordinates and prepares daily/weekly program and staff schedules.
Ensures the utilization of behaviour management techniques in the delivery of programs by program staff.
Determines the need for program supplies and equipment maintains an inventory and assists with purchasing and maintenance of same.
Evaluates programs gathers statistics and prepares evaluation reports.
Communicates and develops a good working relationship with clients the public staff volunteers and partner agencies.
Leads and participates in staff meetings.
Ensures Department/Corporate procedures and/or guidelines are adhered to.
Develops and monitors program budgets.
Assists with the recruitment training supervision and evaluation of program staff.
Prepares program resources as required.
Works with partner agencies for cooperative programming special events and facility concerns.
Performs other general administrative duties as assigned.
Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
Knowledge of a broad range of leisure programs concepts principles trends and program benefits to participants.
Knowledge of contemporary behaviour management principles and techniques in program planning and delivery for various age groups.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service and demonstrated ability to effectively apply them.
Knowledge of current evaluation and reporting principles practices and techniques.
Knowledge of leisure and social needs of a variety of target groups and demonstrated ability to teach and coach others in the skills needed to perform in these activities.
Knowledge of the program planning cycle including needs assessment program development delivery and evaluation.
Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to plan organize coordinate schedule instruct monitor and evaluate skill development program activities for a variety of target groups.
Ability to maintain a positive cooperative safe atmosphere for participants.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision demonstrating sound leadership problem solving time management enthusiasm flexibility responsibility planning and decision making skills.
Ability to interact courteously cooperatively and tactfully with staff clients volunteers community agencies and the public.
Ability to set achievable goals and outcomes for assigned programs.
Ability to recruit train supervise and evaluate staff.
Computer knowledge related to word processing facility scheduling program registration spread sheets graphic programs and email.
Ability to effectively coordinate financial and other resources.
Two 2 years of postsecondary education in Indigenous Studies Arts Social Work Education Kinesiology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary educational institution.
Minimum of one 1 year of experience in the planning delivery and evaluation of Indigenous focused recreation and leisure activities.
Lived experience in the Indigenous community.
Indigenous cultural competency is a requirement of the role and leading from an Indigenous lens
Indigenous language would be considered an asset.
Experience in the planning delivery and evaluation of sport culture and recreation activities and special events for a variety of at risk populations and at the municipal or community level is an asset.
