Context of the Job:
The Student Financial Services compliance team is responsible for monitoring federal state and institutional regulations pertaining to financial aid programs and recommending changes/updates to internal policies and procedures. Under the direction of the Compliance Manager the Compliance Coordinator for Scholarship and VA Benefits has primary responsibility for managing the daytoday activities supporting gift and endowed scholarship awarding. The Coordinator also works closely with the School Certifying Official for VA benefits to coordinate and review individual student financial aid in conjunction with the administration of certified veteran benefits. This position also collaborates with and supports the Financial Aid Compliance Coordinator participating in Return to Title IV Funds (R2T4 processing as needed.
Major responsibilities:
- Executes the awarding of gift and endowed scholarships in alignment with the university financial aid strategy and individual award restrictions including coordination with academic units for annual awarding processes.
- Monitors both currentuse and endowed scholarship budgets to ensure optimal expenditure of available award dollars.
- Review and participates in audit functions to ensure that scholarship awards are compliant with any fund restrictions. Partners with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) to steward scholarship awards in alignment with donor intent per gift documentation.
- Coordinates with the Assistant Dean of Students and School Certifying Official to review student accounts for students eligible and certified for veteran benefits.
- Serves as the point of contact for financial aidrelated questions pertaining to students using veteran benefits.
- Ensures application of institutional state and federal aid in conjunction with veteran benefits is completed in compliance with institutional aid policies and federal regulations.
- Monitors and communicates any challenges or opportunities to improve service information and communication for students who receive veteran benefit support. Makes recommendations to ensure clarity and accuracy of published information supporting students using veteran benefits.
- Collaborates with the Financial Aid Compliance Coordinator to support Return to Title IV processing for all officially and unofficially withdrawn students.
- Maintains and participates in officewide training programs to ensure high levels of customer service that maintain federal compliance and professional judgment standards.
- Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a jobrelated discipline with two years of relevant experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to use data to monitor and manage daily activities. Must be detailoriented and able to complete processing with a high degree of accuracy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn complex financial aid regulations and increase knowledge/experience working in financial aid compliance including Title IV and other federal financial aid programs preferred.
- Analytical detail oriented and quality conscious.
- Skill effectively managing time organizing and prioritizing.
- Analytical skills and proficiency with report writing data analysis PeopleSoft querying and other reporting tools including Excel and Tableau preferred.
- Prefer knowledge of regulations and compliance issues which affect the overall department including but not limited to State and federal laws governing student financial aid billing and collection services required.
