Job Description

Salary:Currently $49638.36$92138.12 (DOE) still being negotiated for.

Insurance:Generous Health dental and vision contribution from the district currently up to $2202 (based upon family coverage) TBD for.

PERS Retirement:The district assumes and pays the 6 average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Location: Klamath Union High School & Ponderosa Middle School


Reports To: Principal

Job Summary:

The High School Choir & Theater Teacher is responsible for leading and developing a dynamic vocal music and theater program that enhances students artistic skills creativity and appreciation for the performing arts. This position involves directing choir performances teaching vocal techniques overseeing theater productions and integrating music and dramatic arts into the curriculum. The teacher will work closely with students parents and the school community to create an engaging and inspiring performing arts program.

Key Responsibilities:

Choir Instruction & Performance:

  • Plan and implement engaging and effective choir and vocal music instruction.
  • Teach vocal techniques sightreading music theory and performance skills.
  • Select and arrange appropriate repertoire for various choir groups and skill levels.
  • Incorporate diverse musical styles and cultural perspectives in the curriculum.
  • Direct and conduct choir performances concerts and competitions.
  • Organize rehearsals auditions and special music events.
  • Lead school and community performances including seasonal concerts assemblies and public events.
  • Encourage and prepare students for regional and statelevel choir competitions.

Theater Instruction & Production:

  • Develop and implement a theater curriculum covering acting techniques stage production and dramatic literature.
  • Direct and produce school theater productions including play selection casting and rehearsals.
  • Teach stage presence script analysis character development and performance techniques.
  • Oversee technical aspects of productions such as lighting set design and costuming.
  • Foster creativity teamwork and selfexpression through theatrical arts.
  • Coordinate student participation in theater competitions and festivals.

Student Development & Engagement:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Provide individual coaching and support student artistic growth.
  • Encourage student participation in music and theaterrelated extracurricular activities.
  • Promote teamwork discipline and confidence through choral and theatrical performance.

Collaboration & Administrative Duties:

  • Work closely with school administrators faculty and parents to support students artistic education.
  • Manage the choir and theater programs budget equipment and resources.
  • Coordinate with accompanists guest musicians directors and community organizations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and participation.
  • Participate in professional development and schoolwide initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Music Education Theater Arts or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon state teaching certificationwith proper endorsements.
  • Experience in choral conducting vocal instruction and theater production at the high school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy music theory acting techniques and stage production.
  • Excellent communication leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students in a collaborative setting.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Work in a classroom rehearsal space theater and performance venue settings.
  • Attend and lead evening and weekend performances rehearsals and productions as needed.
  • Engage with students parents and the school community to build a thriving performing arts program.
