To provide a selfsupporting food service program that is of high quality and meets the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) guidelines for food service programs in the elementary school districts of Norfolk Plainville and Wrentham Massachusetts.Performance Responsibilities:A. Manages the district food services program according to federal state and local requirements.1 Effectively oversees all school food service programs. Monitors compliance with all federal state and local requirements2 Promotes the fiscal stability of the district food service program3 Actively seeks grants and alternate funding sources; effectively implements and utilizes resourcesB.Works with food service managers to plan and evaluate nutritionally sound menus.1 Monitors the school meal pattern2 Plans menus with Food Service Managers3. Ensures that nutritionally equivalent substitutions in menus within guidelines4 Regularly assesses food acceptability and food waste and uses findings for future menu planning5 Modifies recipes to meet the dietary guidelines6 Communicates the importance of food to the health of people served7. Promotes and participates in nutrition education servicesC.Responsible for ordering receiving storing and handling food products according to established standards. Initiates and coordinates the bid process for food service products and services.1 Receives food and nonfood supplies by state specifications and verifies invoices against original orders and actual receipts2. Follows procedures for inspection of goods received for quality specified and for the return of unacceptable goods3 Sees that all food and nonfood supplies are stored by recommended storage requirements4. Directs the use of accepted procedures in the preparation of all foods to ensure palatability and nutrient content5 Ensures the use of recommended methods in measuring or weighing ingredients6 Ensures the use of standardized recipes in food preparation7 Sees that standardized recipes are converted as needed8 Provide instruction in the proper use of all equipment9 Ensures food leftovers are effectively utilized10Follows established procedures for emergenciesD.Ensures that sanitation and safety practices in all school food service operation phases meet established standards.1 Monitors procedures for maintaining safe and sanitary conditions in the storage preparation and service of food2 Monitors the use of basic procedures required for the cleaning and sanitizing of work areas utensils and equipment3 Monitors routine cleaning schedules and checkup systems that comply with requirements as specified under local state and federal laws/regulations4 Enforces standards of personal hygiene and grooming including dress appearance habits etc. among staff5 Identifies potentially hazardous areas and takes appropriate preventive measures6 Informed in the use and operation of life safety equipment (fire extinguishers etc. and ensure staff is fully trained7 Monitors accidents and refers potential safety hazards to school and district administrators8. Ensures that food is thawed served and held at the correct temperatures9 Inspects refrigeration and freezer units regularlyE. Establishes and maintains a system of accountability1 Prepares and maintains required records for the districts operation of food services2 Monitors approved procedures for cash collection prepayments and ticket charge sales3 Ensures proper distribution control and security of all financial transactions4 Monitors and maintains accurate meal cunts reports by category (free reducedprice paid etc. to be in effect5. Ensures that daily menu and food production records are prepared6 Maintains system for recording invoices and preparing personnel forms timesheets and accident forms7 Processes eligibility applications and ensures timely and effective communication of findings to Food Service Managers and school staff8 Prevent discriminatory practices9 Protects the identity of students receiving free and reducedprice meals10 Responsible for cash deposits and records for the Town Treasurer and Town Accountant11 Prepare bill schedules for the food service program12 Prepare monthly and final budget reports13 Prepare bids as necessary14 Tabulate statistical data for local state and federal agencies15 Prepare reports for and present to the School Committee biannually26 Provide the School Business Administrator with payroll data for the Food Service ProgramF.Monitors schedules and work assignments; trains supervises and evaluates food service staff according to established procedures1 Implements district and school policies relating to personnel2 Consults with Food Service Managers and monitors work schedules and assignments3 Implements structured training procedures4 Implements performance measures to evaluate training5 Evaluate employee performance according to established procedures; recommends changes in staffing requirements6 Encourages and participates in effective employee meetings regularly7 .Delegates responsibility as appropriate8. Monitors the serving line to ensure attractive service and a smooth traffic flow4. Monitors use of appropriate serving utensils and portion sizesH.Involves students staff and community in school food service activities1 Coordinates initiatives with the Wellness Committee.2 Relates to and communicates positively with staff and other departments3 Implements procedures for practical cooperation between food service staff and teaching staff about student participation in lunch breakfast and special feeding programs4. Recognizes the importance and role of special functions as a public relations tool5 Works with teachers parents and administrators in matters requiring cooperative effortf. Promotes and arranges tasting parties kitchen field trips and classroom visits for students6 Communicate concerns to an appropriate supervisor about policies and procedures relating to all food service employees7 Implements departmental regulations and procedures8 Identifies potential employee problems and takes appropriate action9 Communicates needs of staff to school and district administration10 Evaluate problems and make decisions within job responsibilitiesJ.Directs preparing and serving of meals for special functions and community activities1 Prepare a statement that identifies all services and costs2 Supervises the preparation and service of food for special activities
