Hennepin County Behavioral Health area has an exciting opportunity for a Social Work Unit Supervisor with interest in staff supervision and the desire to develop implement and guide the operations of the Mental Health Center (MHC) a state Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) dedicated to offering wideranging mental health and substance use disorder care. The Social Work Unit Supervisor will lead the development and continuous improvement of the clinical cooccurring disorders treatment program and supervise a multidisciplinary team providing outpatient mental health and substance use disorder treatment to persons of all ages. This position provides the opportunity to make a difference in diverse communities and programs advance health equity and be part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families.

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed onsite at the Hennepin County Mental Health Center at 2215 East Lake Street Minneapolis MN 55407 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the potential for evening hours. While this position is designated as hybrid based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefitearning employees is inperson in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position you will:



Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Masters degree or higher in social work or closely related field (or licensed as a graduate social worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work) and three years or more of experience as a social worker.
    • Bachelors degree in social work psychology sociology or human services and 27 quarter credits or more of graduate work in areas such as social work methods human growth and behavior principles of social welfare and four years or more of supervised experience as a social worker.
    • Six years or more of experience as a Senior/Psychiatric/Child Protection Social Worker at Hennepin County.
  • Licensure in the State of Minnesota in one of the following:
    • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
    • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
    • Licensed Psychologist (LP)

Nice to have:
  • Currently licensed in the State of Minnesota as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
  • Experience:
    • Supervising staff working in a cooccurring program.
    • Providing and supporting substance use disorder (SUD) services.
    • Working with communities agencies and county programs for the cooccurring outpatient treatment program.
    • Organizing and analyzing data to inform program policy development and quality improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of:
    • American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
    • Cultural differences in beliefs and practices relating to mental health (MH) and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment family structure and dynamics.
    • MH and SUD best practices and standards.
    • Ethics rules and statutes related to MH and SUD services.
    • Suicide prevention and intervention research best practices.
    • Electronic health record documentation.
    • Government and community mental health response systems and resources.
  • Ability to:
    • Be organized detail oriented strategic a problem solver and selfmotivated.
    • Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds and/or populations who experience health disparities.
    • Research identify and implement initiatives.
    • Foster an environment that recognizes and supports diversity and inclusion.
    • Establish and carry out effective working relationships with employees clients other professionals agencies and the public.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity equity & inclusion in their work and interactions.
