Emergency Response Specialist (Institutional Counselor 3 Gage)

Are you the Institution Counselor we are looking for to joinWestern State Hospital In this role you will use your critical thinking and counseling skills to improve the lives of patients with Behavioral Health challenges. We have a great opportunity to be part of a compassionate team that promotes recovery principles and develops therapeutic relationships with our patients as an Emergency Response Specialist. In this role you provide specialized and intensive emergency response mental health treatment. Provide data collection and communication to treatment teams regarding inpatient care. You will partner with other members of the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) to recommend the best solutions.

This role is a day and swing shift position.

Some of what you will do:
  • Provide active patient care and services to clients with psychiatric and physical illnesses.
  • Implement the hospitals Recovery Model to meet the needs interests and abilities of individual clients or groups.
  • Calmly and in a professional manner respond to emergent inpatient psychiatric situations using evidencebased therapeutic intervention techniques
  • Identify the need for treatment modifications.
  • Offer patients nursing or rehabilitative care
  • Prepare documentation of treatment planning
  • Collaborate with treatment teams
  • Maintain a safe secure and therapeuticenvironment
What we are looking for:
  • Working knowledge and skills surrounding therapeutic communication deescalation incident command seclusion/restraint principles and debriefing.
  • Strong leadership skills to work with a variety of patients with different needs
  • Ability to calmly deescalate a variety of situations for patients
Who should apply:
  • The successful applicant has a bachelors degree preferably involving a major study in sociology or other social science andtwo years of professional counseling or casework experience.

    One year as an Institution Counselor 2
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Registration as a Nursing Assistant
NOTE: One year of graduate training in behavioral social sciences may be substituted year for year for experience.
