The Business Intelligence team is connected to every facet of the organization as a strategic partner data solutions provider and catalyst supporting the CBCs product content and operational decisionmaking with data.
Crossfunctional and collaborative by nature we work to ensure that objectives strategies and tactics across all departments in the organization are aligned and delivering value to Canadians. As a result we work closely with various front and backend product teams; Content Units including Radio News and Local Services; Customer Success; Marketing and Media Solutions; as well as our BI counterparts at RadioCanada.
To help further scale our BI practice we are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst (Lead Analyst) to join our team who will take the lead in ensuring the quality of our teams work and collecting business requirements from our stakeholders and translating them into data questions for the BI team to solve.
As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst you will be part of a mature BI & data analytics practice at an organization thats eager to use data to drive the growth of audiencefacing products such as Digital Publishing CBC News CBC Sports etc. CBC Gem (Live and OnDemand Video) and CBC Listen (Digital Audio) as well as support the crucial work of our businessfacing teams.
You will play a significant role in unlocking the value of business intelligence and predictive analytics across the organization and will be seen by others as a key strategic asset a voice of reason and a driver of high quality actionable insights across the organization.
Our BI stack consists of PowerBI for data visualization Azure Databricks / Delta Lake for predictive modelling data warehousing and collaboration.

How you will make an impact:
Take the lead in reviewing and revising the work of the other BI analysts and help implement best practices in agile BI development
Collect business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into data questions for the BI team to solve in a timely and actionable manner
Increase the velocity of the BI teams work sprints through the above so we can go from insights to results better and faster
Conduct sophisticated analyses descriptive predictive or prescriptive in nature that may involve more than one analyst or multiple stakeholder groups
Enhance the quality of insights and scale of results generated by the team through your deep business domain knowledge and expertise in data analytics and applied data science
What you could bring to our team:
The expertise. You have 3 or more years of experience working with complex unaggregated data especially clickstream or event data. You have applied data analysis and data science methods to business realities and have produced data products (insights models etc. that have moved the needle.
The knowledge. You are acutely aware of the impact of data analytics on business decisions. You know how to analyze behavioral signals and turn them into actionable insights. You ask the questions that arent being asked that should be. You use business savvy and people skills to change outcomes not merely data or technology. You know what a crossproduct error is and how to check a 900line SQL query for one. You are also a master of the funnel and know why it is wrong to measure performance only using the conversion rate. You can spot a suboptimal or misleading data visualization from a mile away. You know what oversampling is and can explain to a third grader how it can be addressed.
The technical skills.
Creating clean code and business logic and revising messy code and business logic
Advanced SQL including CTEs window functions and nested queries
Advanced PowerBI especially custom calculations and functions (DAX)
One or more of Amplitude Adobe Analytics (Omniture) or any other enterprise web or product analytics implementations
Working with very large datasets (millions or billions of rows)
Statistical concepts (correlation regression significance etc. Python predictive modelling
The drive. You thrive in an autonomous and ambiguous environment that rejects business as usual. You are curious with an ability to dig for insights see the big picture and keep up with industry changes

The right attitude. You enjoy working with people and sharing your knowledge with them in a collaborative way. You approach things with a beginners mind and are constantly curious and learning.
The communication skills. You are skilled at presenting ideas to nontechnical stakeholders and management. You know how to listen and empathize with others. You are fluent in English and are an excellent verbal and written communicator. A working knowledge of French is an asset.
The education. We are less interested in formal degrees and credentials and more interested in expertise gained through experience but you may be a good fit if you have studied Data Analysis or Data Science Applied Statistics or have equivalent work experience.
Qualified candidates will be subject to a practical assessment of the above requirements.

Development in enterprise data cloud environments (e.g. Azure Databricks)
How to use multiple BI tools not just the one you use the most often
Git and version control
