Position SummaryConsistent with state and federal law case manages coordinates and provides an effective and efficient system of Special Education and Support Services designed to meet the needs of students on IEPsKey Responsibilities:Coordinate and facilitate EPT Eligibility Determination and IEP meetingsEstablish appropriate curricula for all students on IEPsIntegrate students into the least restrictive learning environment and assist with student transitions from one learning environment to another.Provide specially designed instruction to IEP students as needed.Implement/maintain an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student following district and state guidelines.Serve as IEP manager for designated students.Interpret both educational and clinical findings to accurately determine program eligibility and to assess student progress.Produce written progress reports for parents following the district reporting schedule.Contact and meet with parents as required by law and local regulations arranging for at least one annual review of the IEP.Comply with all district policies and procedures regarding due process and confidentiality.Determine appropriate affective and social behavior identify childrens competencies in their daily living skills and develop and implement effective student behavior support plan.Identify and implement appropriate accommodations and other universal design for learning strategies that will enhance student accessibility to learningFurnish all reports requested by the administration.Advise classroom teachers Paraeducators and administration on issues related to special education.Assists the Building Principal or designee with training planning and directing the activities of assigned Paraeducators; plays a key advisory role in evaluating and continued employment.Work with general education teachers to provide special instruction techniques materials and support to ensure success of integrated students.When requested participate as a specialist in inservice workshops for staff.Diagnose utilizing both formal and informal assessments strengths and weaknesses of students learning ability and implement plans to strengthen educational weaknesses.All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications/ExperienceTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily in addition to the following:Bachelors degree or Masters degree or equivalent in Special Education or other appropriate discipline plus 3 to 4 years of relevant experience preferred (or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Working knowledge of Vermont Special Education Law and/or recent experience working in a Vermont school district preferred.Certificates Licenses Registrations. Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License. Holds the appropriate endorsement(s) and meets all the basic competencies and qualifications of the endorsement(s) as listed in the Regulations Governing the Licensing of Educators and the Preparation of Educational Professionals.Language Skills. Ability to read analyze and interpret common educational and technical journals periodicals and procedures and regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents regulatory agencies or members of the community. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals that conform to school/district standards or regulations. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from administrators parents peers board members and the general public.Mathematical/Reasoning Skills. Ability to interpret and use test results by applying math concepts such as standard error of measurement bands of confidence standard scores and percentiles. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.Computer Skills and Experience. Good basic computer skills and experience with word processing programs required. Experience with Microsoft and Google preferred.Communication and Interpersonal Skills. Ability to efficiently effectively and regularly communicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals including students peers subordinatessupervisors parents and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts.Physical RequirementsThe work environment is in a mixed environment with moderate noise temperatures that are controlled and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.The work is light/moderate work requiring exertion of up to 30 pounds of force to move or lift objects.The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job:Standing for prolonged periodsSitting for prolonged periodsRepetitive motions with the hands wrists or fingersRepetitive motions with force on the back or lower bodyAbility to feel grasp or hold objects by handDiscernment of colors visuallyDiscernment of letters or numbersDiscernment of objects under low light or distant conditionsUnderstanding and communicating in spoken languageUnderstanding and communicating in written languagePerception of soundsMaking decisions using logic and rational thinkingTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
