JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation the Assistant Director of Student Development is responsible for the daytoday leadership and management of the departmentwide student development and training program.
Specific responsibilities include:
Develop and implement a departmentwide student development and training program to include elements of safety/risk management operations program and facilityspecific information customer service and NACE competencies
Serve as chair of the Campus Recreations Student Development Work Group
Hire train schedule supervise and evaluate student employees including audit team members
Create implement and oversee a comprehensive parttime staff safety audit program
Work with the Student Development Work Group to provide ongoing student development sessions throughout the year
Assist fulltime staff in developing inservice training specific to risk management and emergency action plans
Train and lead fulltime staff on the student development and training program
Position Qualifications
A bachelors degree or higher plus six years of student development experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A masters degree in recreation sports management higher education or a related field is preferred
Demonstrated experience in student development is required
Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to collegiate recreation is required
A working knowledge of software systems such as Fusion and WhenToWork or similar is preferred
Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer certification is preferred
This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid drivers license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.

Independent work on assignments while reviewing progress and updating the Associate Director as appropriate

Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
Attention to detail and the ability to provide and receive feedback
Willingness to lead students and work in a teambased environment
Eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts including collaborations with campus partners to create meaningful student experiences
Ability to take initiative and have the flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands
Ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff student employees and participants

Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building McCoy Natatorium Stone Valley Recreation Area Tennis Center White Building Aquatics Club Sports Fitness and Wellness Programs Intramural Sports and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 46 fulltime staff and more than 600 student staff members.

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is:
$51000.00 $74000.00Salary Structure additional information on Penn States job and salary structure.
