Job Summary
The Childrens Teacher/Lab Instructor will be responsible for the implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom curriculum and the total daily physical care of young children ages 4 months to 5 years. Childrens Teachers/Lab Instructors are responsible for the supervision in the classroom of lab students workstudy students and collaboration with faculty in the implementation of college credit course lab assignments given to students of CDEC psychology and nursing. Classroom assignments are based on Center needs. Childrens Teacher/Lab Instructors may be reassigned to any classroom where needed.
Essential Functions
Know implement and adhere to the Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards Workforce Solutions Permian Basin Child Care Services criteria Midland College Childrens Center policies and Midland College policies Dependability in attendance and adherence to alltime policies. Have a positive job attitude cooperative with parents children and staff flexibility willingness to accept change and keep up with the current trends in the field of early childhood development Work collaboratively with coteacher to implement developmentally appropriate classroom management curriculum planning interact and supervise children including routines feeding and diapering Use appropriate guidance techniques and positive communication with children parents and staff daily Maintain uptodate childrens records release and emergency forms Light daily cleaning of classroom environment disinfecting changing linens and doing light laundry Train and supervise workstudy students parttime employees and lab students Responsible for recording childrens progress through observation written assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold and developing childrens portfolios (iPads) Conduct parent conferences in the Fall and Spring of each year to communicate progress Implement CCL health and safety standards including keeping classrooms clean and orderly for fire and health standards inspections Complete 30 clock hours of early childhood training annually to meet CCL guidelines from the date of hire Employees may be required to participate in staff development activities as requested Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Must be in good physical health energetic nurturing and patient Must be able to lift children up to 40 pounds to change diapers assist with potty training walking bending standing stooping reaching squatting down stretching sitting on the floor rising up from low chairs or when sitting on the floor and must be able to participate with children on the playground Ethical behavior security sensitive work teamoriented cooperation with coworkers secure work environment confidentiality required
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED verification required within 30 days of employment Must be at least 18 years of age Computer knowledge including iPads Good reading writing and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate positively with coworkers parents and children Proficient in the English language Must successfully pass an FBI fingerprint check and criminal history background check The employee is required to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience working in a licensed childcare facility or early childhood program Current CPR and First Aid Certification Knowledge of health and safety standards appropriate classroom management and curriculum Knowledge of ages and stages of development of children ages 4 months to 5 years of age Knowledge of Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing CCL Minimum Standards
