Position Summary

The Department of Educationaims to facilitate the development of educated teachers who demonstrate the willingness and capacity to empower students and to exercise informed choices in a global society. The program is committed to promoting social justice embracing diversity and inclusion and enhancing teaching and learning through emerging technologies. Our rigorous program ensures that students have the ability to teach and reinforce their practices through numerous teaching projects and student teaching. Classrooms are equipped with technology and resources to ensure our students are trained to integrate technology into teaching. The Department of Education Educator Preparation Program (EPP) is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Livingstone College is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Education/Field Instructor beginning the Fall 2025 semester to teach various in-person courses in the traditional undergraduate programs in Education as well as evaluate future educators in field placement. The person in this position will contribute to the preparation and development of pre-service teachers through instruction supervision mentorship and partnership development with P12 schools. Qualified candidates will hold a doctorate degree in elementary education or educational leadership from an institutionally accredited university or equivalent. Teaching experience in the P-12 school setting as well as experience with special education. Experience teaching and/or supervising in a college or university setting is preferred and experience as a subject specialist (e.g. reading/math coach) or special educator is preferred. Generalist teaching responsibilities will be in teacher preparation (foundations P-12 methodology and field/clinical supervision).

A typical adjunct teaching load consists of four to five classes per semester. Job duties also include academic advising of students active participation in college committees working as a team member in the academic department or division the major resides working collaboratively with other faculty and the college administration active involvement in recruiting activities for new students and participation in and contribution to the general college community. Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Supervise and evaluate student teachers or clinical interns during field placements.
  • Collaborate with local P12 schools to coordinate and support field placements.
  • Serve as a liaison between the university and partner schools to maintain strong clinical partnerships.
  • Mentor and advise teacher candidates throughout their program experience.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in using technology in instruction particularly in online and/or hybrid settings.
  • Prepare course outlines and syllabi in accordance with program standards and in collaboration with the program chairperson.
  • Utilizing effective teaching and learning practices such as presentations demonstrations class discussion guest speakers and other appropriate modes of educational delivery.
  • Use Blackboard as an instructional aide to teach assess student performance and post student grades.
  • Teaching and overseeing courses in the undergraduate elementary education program and early childhood program including methods for literacy science and social studies.
  • Administer synchronous instruction utilizing various teaching strategies that will be inclusive for all learners.
  • Awareness and knowledge of planning and instructing diverse populations of students and using inclusive practices in the content areas.
  • Participate in curriculum development and continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in departmental meetings committees and service to the institution.
  • Contribute to accreditation assessment and reporting processes (e.g. CAEP state licensure requirements).

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

  • Doctorate degree in Elementary Education or Educational Leadership.
  • Valid teaching license
  • Special education certification and/or experience in teaching special education.
  • Experience with evaluation of pre-service teachers.
  • Specialization in teaching literacy.
  • A minimum of three years successful teaching experience in undergraduate elementary education courses.
  • Familiarity with edTPA InTASC standards and other performance assessments.
  • Retired school administrator educator curriculum facilitator is a plus.
  • Strong background of 21st century learning.
  • Five years (minimum) of public-school teaching experience in grades K-6.
  • Successful experience with traditional in-person classes and hybrid/online instruction.
  • Experience teaching students with various learning disabilities.
  • Other skills and abilities include strong written and oral communication skills working knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel Publisher and PowerPoint. Must be driven by the following values: Excellent Customer (Student) Service Creativity Quality and Teamwork.
