Job Description

Child Care Coordinator

About the Role:

The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for the successful leadership supervision and day-to-day operations of School District Operated Child Care programs. This includes oversight in three key areas: Quality Assurance Partnerships and Engagement and Operations. The Coordinator ensures the effective implementation of age-appropriate programming that supports cognitive physical social and emotional development in alignment with the Districts philosophy Licensing Regulations and the Early Learning Framework.

We are seeking an innovative leader to build on existing programs and guide the development of a sustainable child care model for our district. This two-year contract position focuses on expanding access and enhancing the long-term impact of child care services in our community. We are open to structuring this role as a 0.8 to 1.0 FTE position depending on the successful candidates skills experience and availability.

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Early Childhood Education would be an asset
  • Current registration with the BC Early Childhood Educators if ECE qualified
  • Minimum five years of experience in child care or a related field including knowledge and experience in supporting diverse physical mental and developmental needs of children
  • Demonstrated understanding of the BC Early Years Framework and childcare licensing regulations including Child Care Operating Fund and the Affordable Child Care Benefit
  • Experience managing child care centers for 10 or more children would be an asset
  • Demonstrated superior organizational management leadership communication and human relations skills
  • Working knowledge of office procedures and standard office equipment including personal computers and office software. Experience with child care management software esiKidz an asset
  • Ability to understand basic accounting and financial functions to manage budgets
  • Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel will require the use of a personal vehicle
  • Valid First Aid certificate as required by Child Care Licensing
  • Experience in a K-12 Educational setting would be an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Key responsibilities of a Child Care Coordinator include:
  • Work with the district staff and principals
  • Support and oversee the fiscally responsible management of district run child cares
  • Lead and participate in yearly reviews of child care programs operated by the school district
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Vancouver Coastal Health to apply for licensing and ongoing support with Inspections from Licensing
  • Provide support to schools and staff with child care programs (Responsible Adult (RA) Education Assistant (EA) Early Childhood Educators (ECE))
  • Supervise Support Staff who are supporting School District child care programs in partnership with site-based Principals and Vice-Principals
  • Oversee the parent contracts / payments / collection for each child care program.
  • Act as the overall Coordinator for school district run child care programs
  • Complete the monthly Child Care Operating Funding/Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCOF/CCFRI) Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB) and Early Childhood Educator Wage Enhancement (ECE-WE) etc. reports for the Ministry
  • Work with Dispatch Coordinator Human Resources to cover EA/RA shortages in the before and after school child care programs.
  • Identify recommend and co-develop action plans regarding potential program expansion and partnership opportunities to support child care on school grounds
  • Support the use of the Early Learning Framework with all child care providers both district and third parties
  • Liaise with Childcare Resource and Referral Centre (Comox Valley Child Development Centre)
  • Work with community early learning partners in collaboration with district leadership
  • Focused Responsibilities for the Childcare Coordinator include:
  • Manage and oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of child care in the district including helping to cover staff absences.
  • Ensure that center facilities and programming are safe for children and respects the rights of all children
  • Oversee the financial viability of the child care programs through budget management
  • Prepare and maintain complete accurate financial records
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with early learning community groups support agencies licensing bodies and organizations
  • Work with the Human Resource department staff to recruit hire supervise employees
  • Ensure that Indigenous voice and perspective especially those of the Tlaamin Nation are visible and included in programming.
  • Address performance issues and concerns in conjunction with district-based administration
  • Providing training and professional development to staff members as required
  • Review existing policies and procedures on an annual basis and recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Support the implementation of the Early Learning Framework First Peoples Principles of Learning and District Operational Goals

This is a temporary exempt position offering a competitive salary and benefits. Weekday schedule to be determined on active child care hours within the district.

Annual Salary: $78673 $98342 based on 1.0 FTE. FTE: 0.8 to 1.0 (negotiable)
