Job Description
TITLE: Teacher Special Education
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educationalsettings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instructionfor students with disabilities such that the students access the curriculumto the greatest extend possible when supported with supplemental aides accommodations and other needed supports.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide direct instructional support to students in a positive environment.
- Employ specially designed instruction to improve the development of sensoryand perceptualmotor skills language cognition and memory.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior as determined by the students individualized educationprograms (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
- Modify the curriculumfor students with disabilitiesbased upon a variety of instructionaltechniques and technologies.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
- Meet with parents to discuss their childrens progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
- Confer with parents administrators social workers and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students educational physical and social/emotional development.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities as required by laws district policies and administrative regulations.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectivesto students.
- Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) programs for students.
- Provide direction supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Dual Certified Teacher Content Specific Special Education Certification in English or Students with Disabilities Generalist and English 712 certification.
