Job Description

Position Criteria:

  • Associates degree or equivalent
  • 45 years specialized payroll experience
  • Knowledge of school system structure policies and procedures preferred or ability to learn quickly
  • Iowa School Business Management Academy certification preferred but may obtain after hire

Performance Criteria:

  • Payroll Processing Calculate Garnishments/Levies Calc Leave Payouts Direct Deposits Deductions
  • Manage Timekeeping System: Train Rules Setup Imports/Exports Review/Approvals Assist and answer questions from managers and employees
  • Manage IPERS (Iowa Public Employees Retirement System) act as districts Reporting Official determine employee eligibility payments/refunds/adjs upload wage reports complete employees employment forms for drawing benefits compliance review audits
  • Reconcile prepare and process all monthly quarterly and annual payroll taxes payments and reports
  • Research and problemsolve payrollrelated issues/problems and questions (software laws employees)
  • Oversee employee adds transfers terminations in payroll and timekeeping systems to ensure accurate payments
  • W2s: balance process distribute and process electronic filings in accordance with federal and state laws
  • Send Staff Communication as related to payroll W2s IPERS time clock tax laws etc.
  • Projects to develop new processes software improvements as related to payroll/business dept/timekeeping. Collaborate with HR and CFO regarding such things as leave rules handbooks procedures
  • Professional Development/Software Training & travel/Conferences (Professional organizations: Assn of School Business Officials School Business Mgmt Academy American Payroll Assn)
  • Implement accounting and timekeeping software system changes when applicable work with software rep & IT.
  • Software setup for each new fiscal year; payroll calendars all employee work calendars leave plan rule setup and updates employee leave transfers/accruals. Oversee/update federal and state tax tables SS & Medicare rates etc
